Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert PIR720RN Motion Sensing Light Socket

Customer Review: Light Socket Motion Detector
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased my original motion detector around twenty years ago.
It was in my laundry room, and afforded good visual access when our hands were full. I didn't pay much attention to it until it failed. Then it was sorely missed. I consider this pretty good service for most any product. It performed as advertised and my replacement arrived promptly and my wife is smiling again.
I'll probably buy another in twenty more years.

Customer Review: Not a strong motion detector
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a basic motion sensing device.
Two things you need to know about this product before purchase:
1- it can not be used behind a glass, it simply will not detect motion if it is behind a glass even clean clear glass. I had to remove the glass from the outside wall light before it can be used.
2-if the room is dark it will not detect the motion unless you really come very close to it.

Overall I give it 2-3 stars

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

This little appliance makes a big difference. For several years, the pull chain socket in my garage store room has been broken, and even before it was, you had to walk into the room and try to find the chain in the dark. With this - problem solved. I'm very happy with it. When I first put it in, the light coming on was delayed, but thanks to another reviewer's suggestion, I turned the socket slightly and now it comes on instantly every time.

Customer Review: Works beautifully, so far (one month)
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought two units and put one in the garage, about 10.5 feet above the floor, and the second unit in a small room off the side of our basement, about 7 feet above the floor. Both work very well even though the installations are not within the 8-10 ft. spec. given in the instructions. The garage installation eliminated a major safety problem because we use the back door, where there is no light switch. It's a nice security feature, too.

Customer Review: Great for the garage
Summary: 5 Stars

We tried this on a hallway inside our house that formed a T-intersection with another hallway. The sensor picked up the motion when someone walked down the other hallway; consequently, it didn't work for us in that location.

We moved it to the garage and it has worked very well. It's great to automatically have the overhead light come on.

Recommended but carefully consider where you want to install it.
