Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert PIR720RN Motion Sensing Light Socket

Customer Review: Let There Be Light!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was just what we were looking for, and a much needed investment. We use it in a small bathroom which has no outlets or light switches. As stated in reviews by others, it is necessary to mount it upside down. We did have to remove the glass cover for our light in order to do this. It works well, though, because the children can now use the bathroom without needing adult assistance to turn on the light. It stays on for a period of about 4 minutes, and then turns itself off. We do need to keep the door closed most of the way to prevent it from turning on unnecessarily due to motion outside the room (when people walk past the bathroom via the hallway). We've used ours for about 3 months now, and it works just great!

Customer Review: Fabulous Light Technician
Summary: 5 Stars

"Aziz, light! ... Thank You Aziz." is the line from The Fifth Element I'm reminded of when I open my basement door after parking in my garage, and the lights automatically go on. Now I just head upstairs without having to switch anything on or off! I had thought of wiring a 2 way switch, but would have had to run extra wiring etc.. This is so much easier.
The big plus is that now I don't even have to flip a switch, which is SO CONVENIENT if you have things in both hands and are already struggling with the door. Yes it does stay on for 4 minutes before turning itself off; surely we have, at times, unintentionally left lights on for much longer, so it's still a plus. Excellent product!!!

Customer Review: First Alert Motion Sensor Screw in Adaptor
Summary: 5 Stars

The First Alert #PIR720R was exactly what I needed for a garage light. The sensor works great and I no longer have to fumble in the dark to find the light switch. It's great for safety and security reasons e.g. when pulling the car into the garage I now have automatic lighting. The product saves money in two ways. It automatically shuts off after a minute and I didn't have to hire an electrician to rewire the simple light fixture for an "outside" sensor. I was concidering an automatic door opener which would have had an automatic light, but that would have cost about $200 without installation! The First Alert just scews into the socket and is ready to perform. It has performed beyond my expectations.

Customer Review: Motion sensing light socket
Summary: 5 Stars

Great product! I've used it before. They last for several years then burn out. They start flickering and the light isn't as bright, then they won't turn off after no motion is detected. This is the 3rd time I have bought this model. When the last one stopped working I couldn't wait until the new one came in the mail. I got so used to it that I didn't realize how much I missed it. I use it in the laundry room where the only light switch is on the other entrance. Walking into a dark room with your hands full and having the light come on instantly as you approach is really essential. I've paid up to $45.00 the first time. You need to look around for a good price around $25-30.

Customer Review: Works well but not with CFL bulbs
Summary: 4 Stars

This was the perfect solution for a dark basement. The only light switches were 10 feet into the room, so we always had to fumble around in the dark to find the lights. Now, the lights go on the instant we enter the doorway.

My only complaint is that the light flickers just a little. It's noticeable if this is the only light that's on in the room. I first tried this with the CFL energy efficient bulbs, and they were not happy with the varying power. They buzzed a lot and the flickering was much more noticeable. The instructions for this unit say that it works with incandescent bulbs up to 100 Watts. Stick with your regular light bulbs and you'll be fine.
