This item works as advertised. I put it in my laundry room in my basement an area that had no light switch and the light was left on all the time. Now when I enter the room the light comes on and turns off shortly after leaving, just what I needed for that room. Has worked great, with no problems. I did read other reviews before purchasing and was a little worried as others seemed to have problems with it. I have not experienced any of the them so far and am very pleased. I do know you have to follow the instructions on which light bulb to install as others have had problems when using energy saver bulbs.Customer Review: First Alert Delivers on Promise

The First Alert Motion Sensing Light Socket could not be easier to use. It does exactly what the package says it will do. Screw it into a light socket, then screw a light bulb into the First Alert Socket. Voila'! Works great. I have 2 in my garage. When arriving home at night and pulling into the garage, instant lighting! I love these things. Highly recommend them. One caveat, though: you cannot use the motion sensing light socket inside any type of lighting that is enclosed--such as a porch light--even if it is enclosed in clear glass. This product must be used in a bare, open-air light socket.Customer Review: Great product. Skip wiring a motion detector and buy this instead

Great product! It works perfectly in a garage hallway that was previously unlit and had stairs, and had the one switch to the light across the room. (You can see how dangerous it could be.) I first tried to wire in a motion detector at the light switch, but that was too difficult. Instead, I installed this simple motion detector that went right into the existing socket, and it works like a charm. As the other reviews have said, I would use a standard bulb rather than a compact flourescent, as the compact flourescent takes too long to warm up. I purchased this item about a month ago. I finally had a chance to replace the existing light bulb in my garage which was operated by a conventional light switch with one now controled by the Motion Sensor Activation. It's fantastic! Now I can take things out to the garage with both hands full, and not have to find the light switch. The light comes on automaticly when I open the garage door from inside the house to the garage. It's been a life saver, as there is a small step from the house to the garage floor. I did not even have to adjust the sensor, it worked from the get go.Customer Review: Does what I wanted

I bought this for my garage. It works perfectly when the motion it's detecting is the garage door opening. Since what I wanted was to have the garage lighted when I go in there at night and to do that I have to open the garage door, it's doing exactly what I wanted it to do. When I wanted it to notice ME in the garage, I had to walk over and wave both arms before it went on. To be fair, however, the instructions say that it works best on the ceiling and this unit is not only on a wall, it's also blocked by a wood strut on one side and by the car parked in front of me.
