Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert PIR720RN Motion Sensing Light SocketCustomer Review: Works wonderfully, but one small blindspot Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered two of these for my garages, since there aren't easily accessible lightswitches from all entrances. At first, one of them wouldn't pick me up when entering from this one door, but I rotated the fixture by about 10 degrees and then it was fine; so there IS a blindspot.
I am loving them - especially when I enter the garage holding stuff, light just goes on automatically, immediately. The range appears to be great too, as I can enter from one corner of the garage, and the sensor on the other side of the garage (~30ft from where I step in) will activate.
Customer Review: Perfect for Dark Basements Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this product for about 15-years and highly recommend it. I have them scattered thru out my very dark unfinished basement so instead of searching with a flashlight to find a pull cord the Motion Sensor immediately turns the lights on as I enter and move about. They turn off within 4-mins so I never worry about them staying on. If you're spending some time in that area, as long as you move about, they will stay on or just wave your arms and they're back on immediately. I truly think every home should have them. I've never had to replace one either.
Customer Review: Wonderfully convenient Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing product. I love it! If they were less expensive, I'd buy five or six. I have one in my basement, where the bulbs are old-fashioned screw-in-to-turn-on types (not pull chains). Yes, I could rewire the basement, but in the meantime, this is the perfect choice. Like many motion-sensing devices, this socket doesn't work with a flourescent bulb; package instructions say to use it only with incandescent bulb. It also can't be used in an enclosed fixture, only a bare-bulb fixture. But for closets, garages, pantries, basements, etc., it's perfect.
Customer Review: Not good for closets, old obsolete incandescent bulbs only Summary: 2 Stars
Not good for closets, this device will use old obsolete incandescent bulbs only. I bought two of these to try. By the time they light up, you will have gotten what you needed and closed the door again. They won't work outdoors because they're not designed for that, either. So just what are these good for? Perhaps for a large empty room lit by a single incandescent light bulb? If you put any furniture in the dark empty room you'll be doing Dick Van Dyke impersonations every time you walk through. It is a shame but this thing is pretty much useless. Sorry.
Customer Review: I so want to like this sensor........ Summary: 2 Stars
...but it seems to be a tad fragile.
I had three of four of these literally stop working after a seemingly routine power outage last week. They were in service for over a year and did a great job while they were alive. Last year one gave up the ghost for no apparent reason.
So what is it about the design that makes these things go flat-line?
I'd like to replace the three dead ones but I'm getting a little nervous about laying out this kind of $$$ on more of the same reliability.
Thanks for reading!
