Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fluke 1AC-A1-II Volt-Alert AC Non-Contact Voltage TesterCustomer Review: Fluke ... made in China Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this voltage detector thinking that for $25 I'd get a nice, solid, US-made product. Upon receiving it, I set up to test known circuits. I found the following problems:
1) it is too sensitive in some instances - like near a plastic surge protector
2) it is not sensitive enough in other instances - in outlets where the tip cannot go in fully
3) it is erratic when touching the metal base of lamps (I tried two) - it indicates dangerous voltage when I know for sure that this is not the case. Granted, I might have received a defective one.
I will return it today.
Customer Review: What is going on, or off Summary: 1 Stars
I for the most part like Fluke, they are the name to buy when you want a good tester. So that is why I bought the Fluke non-contact tester. But it goes off when it is in your hand, or you move it to much and so on. Than when I checked a ck it said it was off and I know it was on. Than I checked it again it said it was on. That was the end of that tester, I could never trust it again. I have found the greenlee tester to work the best, I trust it for the most part, I have been doing this for a long time, so it is always hot in my eyes.
Customer Review: Best non contact tester Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a licensed electrician and use this tool everyday. Be it for safety or a trouble shooting aid it always works flawless, far far far better then the Greenlee version that can be found at the home depot. This tool will usually pickup voltage thru the nylon romex jacket thru the front of switches and outlets. The only downside is I end up replacing this tool from damage a couple times a year, dropping it and throwing it into your tool bag will eventually break it. A great product from Fluke to compliment the T5-600 multi meter.
Customer Review: Good product with some drawbacks. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm an eletrical engineer who does eletrican work on the side. For the day to day eletrican this is a good tool. For people who are working with anything else, i'd shell out a bit more and get a diffrent product.
cons:
There is no range setting on this tool, which proves to be useful.
Also the tool needs to be touching the wire to detect any current.
pros:
Good battery life.
Durable, dropped it off a 4th story and it works fine.
Customer Review: THE ONLY ONE TO BUY! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the only volt alert I would use and trust. It is a quality product that has lasted me for over 5 years so far. It is sensitive, accurate, durable and has a handy clip when you slide it in your pocket. The auto shutoff is nice (with an audible alert to let you know it's turning itself off). The illuminated tip is good for dark places like an attic. I'm getting one for my brother and father as gifts. I wouldn't trust any brand other than Greenlee and Fluke. I think all others are dangerous and a waste of money.
