Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fluke 1AC-A1-II Volt-Alert AC Non-Contact Voltage TesterCustomer Review: It Comes in Handy! Summary: 5 Stars
This AC detector comes in very handy around the house. I just had a bathroom ceiling fan fail and the first thing I did was use this to make sure I had power going to the fan. Sure, I could have lugged a lamp or something up the ladder to plug in but this baby is MUCH smaller!
I haven't changed the battery in I don't know how long but it keeps working, so it doesn't wear out batteries just sitting in the drawer.
Great tool to have around when you need it. Highly recommend.
Customer Review: Another Great Fluke Product! Summary: 5 Stars
Fluke makes well thought out and manufactured products for tradespeople all over the world. I have come to know the Fluke name over the years and find everything they make dependable and professional. I would test a circuit with a multimeter or contact test before handling it if you aren't positive about the circuit layout first. All of these non contact volt testers present a shock hazard if not verified with contacting testers first. They do a wonderful job of getting a quick "hot" or not feedback.
Customer Review: Great Quick Reference Tool Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good tool to make a quick test through the insulation of an electrified wire. It is also good to locate an open in the wiring. If it shows there is voltage, you can count on it but do not be convinced that there is no voltage just because it doesn't indicate that there is. Always be cautious and make a final check using a voltmeter. 240 vac lines do not show any voltage present because the opposing emf fields cancel each other out.
I would purchase this tool again.
Customer Review: Not Bad Summary: 4 Stars
This is a useful tool but could benefit from an enhancement in sensitivity. You have to generally come very close to touching the wire for a second or more before the unit will respond. Be careful not to completely believe the test results or you could be shockingly surprised. The low sensitivity has the accidental benefit of determining the Hot and Neutral wires even when these wires are in rather close proximity. On the bright side, it is faster and easier to use than a VOM or DVM.
Customer Review: Not bad overall Summary: 4 Stars
Got this after using a GB unit for years. I states it senses 90-1000V, which probably explains why the tip has to almost be touching a wire before the light goes off. In some cases, it will light up on one side of the romex, but not on the other. My GB unit would go off half an inch away. It's sensitivity is rated at 50-600V, so maybe more appropriate for homeowner use. In any case, I like the quality of build and the fact that it takes AA batteries.
