Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fluke 1AC-A1-II Volt-Alert AC Non-Contact Voltage Tester

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 4 Stars

Well built feels solid in and hand works as expected.
Not as sensitive as other brands witch is good, it will let you put the blade into a receptacle to test if the hot and neutral are wired correctly. Other units are to sensitive and alarm as you get close.
It uses 2 AAA batteries so you have to make sure they have enough power to run the device. A little larger then expected I guess due to the internal batteries.

Customer Review: Works better than expected.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen this tester used by contractors/electricians on TV. I had to replace a celing fan, house wiring is not what it should be. Turning off the circuit breaker to this room did not kill the power to the fan. The tester showed the wires still live (just by touching the probe to the outside of the insulated wire), probably saving me from a nasty shock. I turned more breakers off and no electricity to the fan and no shock.

Customer Review: Very Stable Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this tool fairly often and it has proved to be reliable and consistent. I like it that it has a visual and an audible signal. I have owned maybe 5 or 6 of this style of non contact tester. This one works the best, is the most solidly built, is the prettiest, and it has been in my tool boxes in the hot sun for over a year and it has not melted, like ALL the others. Even if it was $50 it would be well worth it.

Customer Review: Fluke
Summary: 3 Stars

This fluke is not working out very good for me... it is not sensitive enough. When I put it into a couple older outlets I really have to push it in far to get an alert. I used to use my friends greenlee and it would lite up whenever you came near a hot line you didnt have to touch it directly. This fluke maybe for "professionals" and because of the reviews is why I bought it, but I miss the Greenlee...

Customer Review: not up to the fluke name
Summary: 3 Stars

its a voltage tester, and it works... but I have used better. The unit has no adjustable sensitivity and is rather non sensitive... you hav eto just about touch the wire before it picks up voltage and makes it harder to get a positive reading. Lack of adjustable sensitivity makes the unit difficult to use when trying to find a live wire in a group of wiring. works, yes... but lackluster performance.
