Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote ControlCustomer Review: Quiet & simple Resolution to hot room Summary: 5 Stars
I had a nice, cooled room last night so I am happy! Granted, I've only had this unit for one night yet, but as long as it keeps going, I'm a relieved customer. I researched many a small air conditioning unit to finally decide on this one. The deciding factors were mainly its Energy Saver rating and price, which is comparable to anything out there this size. I already have another Frigidaire unit, much larger/higher BTU's in the living room and also figured to go with what works.
Anyone who doesn't have central heat and air knows that these window units work wonders ONLY in the rooms their situated in. I would set up fans from the LR to face into the other rooms in order to suck some of the cooler air with some success. Worked just fine until the temps got into the 90s, then I knew something had to be done with my BR b/c I cannot sleep in heat! Wanting to only spend around $100, I weighed other reviews & found this unit to be the most consistent, if a bit more in price. It's still on the low-end as far as air conditioners go, but still, nobody wants junk or to waste money! And with Amazon's Prime I received free shipping in two days... can't beat that!
Overall, it was easy to install and cooled the room to a comfy temp for me. Now, noise levels highly depend on the individual. Comparing it to the bigger unit in the LR, this one is much quieter. I hardly could tell when it turned on/off. It has a nice, low hum to it & I couldn't be more thrilled. I expected much worse. So, as long as this unit keeps on giving, I can highly recommend it!
Customer Review: Quick Ship, Not too loud, Plenty cool Summary: 4 Stars
First, I was amazed to find that even though I used super saver shipping, this was delivered to me in less than 24 hours. I ordered it after lunch one day, and had it at ten the next morning. That alone is amazing.
Second, this price stood up very well to the retailers I picked. The only downside was that I could not qualify for Maryland's $50 rebate for buying an energy star appliance. To get that, the unit would have to be purchased in MD.
Third, this unit isn't too loud. I'm pretty sensitive to background noise, and this doesn't bother me too much. Set on the second fan speed, the fan is loud enough to cover the whomp of the compressor kicking on.
Fourth, it does a pretty good job. My room is only about 12x15 and I do have high ceilings. However, I am using this as a "supplement". I have central AC, but I like to make my bedroom cold enough to need blankets so I use a window unit rather than cooling the whole house to 68. I also like a window unit because it blocks out the noise of my city neighbors. So it's fine for me. I think if I had a larger room or didn't have the central AC "pre-cooling", I'd probably have to turn this on high for a couple of hours before I went to bed, to give it time to cool the whole room down.
In any case, I'm happy with this. Something with higher BTU would make my room cooler, but I have found that units bigger than this make too much noise.
Customer Review: A Nifty Little Unit Summary: 4 Stars
I've read all the reviews and various complaints about this air conditioner. I've owned a few air conditioners in my day and I have to say this is a nifty little unit.
For a window unit, it's very quiet. Is it silent? No, but no window air conditioner is. Cooling is very good, but be warned it cools exactly to spec. I live in a small apartment, probably only 500 square feet. This unit cools the bedroom and that's about it. I have a ceiling fan that keeps the air moving in the apartment but this unit simply doesn't push enough air to make an impact. To be fair, it's not designed to. It's a terrific single room A/C.
Digital controls on a unit this small are a nice feature. They are nicely laid out, easy to use, easy to figure out, and the digital temp readout is clear and can be read from anywhere in the room. The remote control, another nice extra for a unit this small and inexpensive, is very easy to use and a great convenience. The unit also has an ionization filter which, as someone who suffers from allergies, appears to actually work!
Installation is a breeze. Just snap on the side panels and pop this puppy into the window. It's light and easy to maneuver.
Are there cheaper units? Yep, but you won't get the extras that you get with this one.
Well recommended.
Customer Review: Good little unit but a couple things. Summary: 4 Stars
Pros.
Very Energy efficient. Small and easy to install. Remote control. Not very loud.
Cons.
Some of the fins on the back of my unit were bent from the factory, just cosmetic, so no big deal.
I wish the flaps that you extend to fit the window were more airtight. I had to seal them myself or air could escape.
I keep this in an upstairs bedroom, and it keeps the room nice and cool as a supplement to my central air. It not very loud, more of a white noise. It keeps the room cool and was a good value for the price. I wasnt thrilled with the side flap extenders as there is small gaps where air could escape or possibly small insects could get in, but I sealed them with tape and silicone. So no big deal. Overall im happy with the unit and it keeps my electric bill lower by not having to crank my central air up to keep my upstairs cool, which turns my downstairs meatlocker cold... I think the unit pays for itself. No reliablity issues so far and I consider it a good investment, but did take a little tweaking to seal everything up. I run it on enery saver mode all the time with the air purifier on.
Overall 4 1/2 out of 5.
Customer Review: Works Well, Minor Defect Summary: 4 Stars
After a day of use so far, the item has worked well in a 10 x 14 foot room. The remote control has clear labels and is easy to use. I did not find it to be loud as others have described. Overall, this is an excellent air conditioner for the price. However, there were some negatives related to installation.
Like one of the other reviewers, mine arrived with a twisted and bent track on the bottom that prevented the plastic frame from sliding into it. I had to remove it, twist it back into shape with pliers and then reattach it. The packaging was sturdy and there was no damage to the box so this likely was a manufacturing problem.
Either the top of the air conditioner or the top track was bent slightly, preventing the two middle screws from reaching the sheet metal. I worked around this by sitting on the bar while screwing it in.
The installation guide could have been clearer. The pictures are washed out and some of the wording is confusing, especially the step for attaching the accordion panel to the side. When I set the instructions aside and tried to figure it out myself, it became easy and obvious to attach. (You simply slide the edge of the accordion panel vertically down into the slot.)
