Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote Control

Customer Review: Best AC deal on Amazon....or anywhere else, including your local Wallyworld!
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite a lot of negative comments I read before purchasing, I bought this AC because of the great price. It was simple to install, does not sound like a freight train as was described by some, and does a fantastic job of cooling even when it's 100 degrees outside. Just make sure you get one large enough for the area you are cooling., I bought 4 units, 3 different sizes, and all work well in their respective area. Would probably be a good idea to buy 1 size larger than you think you need. I had them shipped overnight for an extra $3.99. Ordered at 3PM one day, were her the next morning at 10 AM. The freight would have been more than the purchase price at many places. I almost forgot.....one of my units had a compressor that was malfunctioning. I emailed Amazon and they shipped another out immediately that I received the next day. I installed it, put the old one back in the carton, and the UPS man came and picked it up. Very easy transaction, no questions asked, and I didn't have to pay for the new unit provided they received the old one back in a certain number of days. I love Amazon! (NOTE: I am using the same review for the 3 different sizes of ACs I purchased, 5000, 8000, and 10,000 BTUs, as they are almost identical in performance.)

Customer Review: Aaaaaah, relief....

Our house is over 50 yrs old, no central a/c, and probably not the best wiring. We got this for a very small bedroom (89 sq ft), and chose it because of the high EER and low current draw. We did have to raise the unit up on wood in order to clear the storm window frame. However, there were no difficulties in installation. This a/c has a thermostat, variable fan speed, ionic air cleaner, timer, and energysaver feature. It has now been used for about a month - we got it right before the heat wave - and has been performing well. We keep it on "energysaver", meaning that the unit comes on when the room temp is higher than the set thermostat. On the hottest days (100degF) it came on probably every 10 minutes. Because the room is so small, it cooled the room in 10 minutes as well. The air doesn't become ice cold, but it does cool quite well. It also does a good job of dehumidifying the air. Whether or not the ionic cleaner works, I honestly cannot say. The variable fan speed allows you to keep it as quiet as you need (it's not the quietest, nor the loudest compressor, but really I just want to be comfortable). Very satisfied with this, especially for the discounted price we paid and the incredibly fast and free shipping.

Customer Review: dented

i purchased mine thru qvc and when i opened the pristine box i was greeted with a dent in the back frame which also caused a small bulge underneath. unlike other reviewers i am not too handy so i didnt try to bang them out myself. i also had the same problem others has installing the two middle screws in the top bar. i used another reviewers idea and sat on it while i screwed them in and it worked fine. it works but now that i have purchased an ac it is now 65 degrees with no humidity so i will have to wait to see how well it functions. i am hoping the problems are all cosmetic like everyone elses seem to be because i think taking it apart and repacking will be more of a hassle that installing it!
returned to qvc and got undented unit from amazon. avoid qvc. they received it back in three days and took two extra weeks for processing but couldnt send a new one because they were out of stock even though they had them (and still do) online. amazons ac arrived in good shape and seems to work ok even though i have only used it a couple times. still was a pain installing the top rail but finally got it on using foam and longer screws for the middle. i am glad i bought it a few weeks ago since i paid $145 and now its $219.

Customer Review: Nice Air conditoner and service from Abes
Summary: 4 Stars

I believe the air conditioner is a good one however unfortunate that I have sideways slider windows and not up and down windows. this unit is for an up and down window so we have to put it in another part of the house. We haven't used the unit yet but initially, the box was terribly damaged but the original company, packaged the unit very well so the internal box stayed in tacked. I was upset to find the wording on Amazon say that the expedited shipping for a 2-3 was $66 but I needed the unit fast for my 17month old son however the unit didn't come until 1 and a half weeks later. Luckily, I talked to Abe's Of Maine, Inc. who shipped the unit through Amazon and they are giving me a $33 credit for the shipping. It helps with the sting of the shipping costs. I would recommend this product to others but look for free shipping :) and don't expedite! :) Abe's of Maine seemed to really be interested in fixing the problem especially when they thought the product was damaged due to shipping. I was on the phone with them and the line was disconnected however, they called back which was surprising...how many service folks actually take the time to call back?

Customer Review: Worth the volume!
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had mine for about three weeks now, and am very happy with it. It's very energy efficient and yet seems to just be cranking out the cold - there have been a few times where the room has been flat-out chilly, and I don't have a household that goes overboard on cold - just enough to be comfortable. So, that's quite nice, to not only not wonder if the thing is working but to wonder if maybe it's working too hard!

The vents are useless, but I've never really known an ac that was different, so we have creatively rigged up our own custom directional system when need be. The remote is fantastic; can even be operated in the dark (wish Frigidare made home theater remotes, or at least the one for my cable.)

It's pretty loud and I wouldn't recommend it for people who live out in the country, but I have a city apartment and the noise this makes is actually more pleasant than a lot of others in my neighborhood.

I totally recommend this for city-dwellers (or hearing impaired) who are too warm and on a budget. Perhaps if you're lucky you'll find it at 30% off like I did!
