Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote ControlCustomer Review: Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is the best value for 165 sq ft. Inexpensive, efficient (energy star), relatively quiet and does the job.
I am very sensitive to noise, especially sudden sounds, but I could sleep with no problems. When the compressor turns on, it is not sudden, but gradual. If you can sleep during rain, you should have no problems with this unit.
Another complain was water inside the unit. Yes, it is there and all AC's have it. However, it is on the outside and you can only hear (and see) it outside.
It will take you about 30 minutes to install (some assembly is required). The instructions are somewhat confusing, but it is relatively easy - all you need is a screw driver. Comparing to my previous AC, this one is considerably lighter. The only problem I found was a narrow hole under the air conditioner. I am not sure why it is there, but I closed it with a piece of tape (included).
I was planning to buy another unit, but my rooms are either much larger or the windows are too narrow.
Customer Review: Works well for me! Summary: 4 Stars
After weeks of trying to find something with a good review and a decent price, I settled on this AC unit mostly because it came with a remote. It was a good price, had free shipping, and arrived in 2 days. Can't beat that! I have central air but wanted a window unit because I work the night shift and sleep days. This way I can have my room nice and cool without cooling the entire house and wasting money. My bedroom is small...this unit handled it just fine. I have been using this unit for about 8 weeks now I guess and haven't had any of the noise problems other reviews have mentioned. It is, after all, an AC unit with a fan! It makes some noise, but what do you expect? The lowest temp is 60 degrees which is displayed in digital numbers. It has a sleep mode which I never use. I keep the unit on the entire time I sleep. Light enough for me to install all by myself(I am a middle-aged woman). I think it was a great purchase but don't recommend for anything larger than a moderately sized bedroom.
Customer Review: Great little unit. Highly recommended. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this little window unit to put in our living room to supplement our central AC. Our central AC unit is probably undersized for our house and during the 95F + summer days, it just can't keep up. Our living room is the farthest room from the central AC unit, gets full exposure to the sun, and we have a large plasma TV that generates some heat, so during the summer the room can get too warm. This little window unit has a done a great job keeping the room not only comfortable, but very cool. Since this unit is in our entertainment room, I was concerned about a window unit being too noisy and sounding like a jet engine and drowning out our surround sound set up. This unit is actually pretty quiet. It has several different settings, but we always use it in energy saving mode, with the fan set to auto.
The installation instructions and especially the installation pictures leave a lot to be desired. But despite that, I highly recommend this unit if you just need to cool one room.
Customer Review: Great little air conditioner Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this unit about 3 weeks ago and am so glad that I did. My apartment stays hot much of the year, making it difficult for me to sleep. For a few years I made due with a Soleus portable air conditioner in my 110 sq. ft. bedroom, but on very hot days/nights, it just couldn't keep up. I replaced it with this little Frigidaire and I am thrilled with the results! It cools SO much better than the portable a/c. I'm afraid that I can't compare the noise to other window air conditioners, but it's not any noisier than the Soleus. My only complaint is that the directional air flow vents don't give you much choice as to the direction, but based on reviews of other A/C's, this is a common problem with room air conditioners. I would most definitely recommend this baby!
An addendum - I just received my first electric bill since replacing my Soleus Portable air conditioner with the Frigidaire FAA055P7A, and my bill has gone down by $26.00. Yay!
Customer Review: Hard Working Coolio Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend this efficient, little machine. He works like a crazy man, bellowing dry, refreshing cool air into my bedroom, even on the hotest day. And he was a snap to install. Just help him out of the box, open the window, snuggle him into that sweet spot in the middle of the opening, feed him his favorite snack (110V current) and let him do his thing. You can tell he enjoys his job, cause every time I turn on the switch he says, "thanks for the juice, man!" and then purrs like a kitten while propelling that artic chill across the room. And he never complains. Not even a rattle or a wimper--even when he has to do a double shift. So, if you want a hard worker who won't get caught in a traffic jam along the extra mile, hire this man.
P.S. I heard he was born in China--but moved to the States shortly thereafter. Maybe that's where he got his work ethic and good manners. Anyhow, he loves living here and speaks perfect English.
