Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote Control

Customer Review: Works well but was not in good condition upon delivery!
Summary: 3 Stars

I received it within a day of ordering with free shipping & the price was right. I did not open the box right away maybe it was 10 days or so later. It was a hot day & my neighbor insisted on installing the air conditioner. When we opened the box it was all smashed in the back where is hangs out the window. I was really disappointed so this means I have to get someone to take it down the stairs & bring it to UPS to return. My neighbor suggested that we run it to see if it worked properly & it was fine. Rather then go through the process of returning the appliance I kept it & it does work beautifully. The part of it that is smashed is out the window so you cannot see it so it does not spoil the looks of it from the inside. So the review is not about the job it does to cool the room, it is about the condition it was received.

Customer Review: Trustworthy little unit does the job.
Summary: 4 Stars

I've owned two of these low end Frigidaire air conditioners. One was a hand-me-down from friends who switched to central air. They'd owned it for a few years, and it still worked nicely for another few years of heavy summer use after I got it.

I bought a second one to cool a 12 x 20 foot bedroom. It does the job handily. Like another poster here I wouldn't exactly call this a "quiet" appliance; however I live in the city and was happy to swap the random all-night sounds of the city for the "white noise" grumbling of this puppy.

I foolishly bought a Sunbeam air conditioner to cool a smaller bedroom and regret that I didn't stick with Frigidaire. The Sunbeam was the worst performing appliance I've ever purchased. I'll never buy another Sunbeam anything, ever!

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 4 Stars

In this oh-so-hot summer in the northeast, we decided to add a small window air conditioner to create some zone cooling in our main living area, and leave the central air set at a higher temperature. After a bit of searching including checking out the Consumer Reports reviews I found this unit on Amazon. It works great, was inexpensive, easy to install, and is reasonably quiet. Having a remote control is a nice feature.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that a corner had been banged up in shipping. I could have returned it, but decided to go ahead and get it into use rather than wait longer, and the damage is only cosmetic. But I think it's worth knowing that there is some risk with shipping damage with bigger and heavier items like this.

Customer Review: The bottom bar was bent out of shape.
Summary: 2 Stars

The bar was really bent out of shape, so my porter [a strong guy] had to try to bend it back. The bar is what makes the accordion go back and forth to fit the window's width. It is really heavy metal so it must have been smashed in ORIGINALLY at its origin.

I don't know how efficient it is because it's cool in New York now.

I was impressed with the overall look and the energy rating.

Some of the corresponding HOLES were missing. And even the batteries were smashed FLAT for the remote.

It was the first thing that ever arrived all banged up.

The remote is NOT easy to figure out.

I rarely return anything, so we had to correct it ourselves. Luckily, I bought really good tools.

Customer Review: Good AC
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a pretty good AC for the price. I'm not sure why some people are saying it's a loud unit. It will depend greatly on how the AC is installed and the current condition of the window frame. Mine runs fairly quiet. I installed mine using M-D Building Products 6619 Sponge Rubber Tape, 3/8-by-1/2-Inch-by-10 feet, Closed Cell tape to help prevent window vibration. My windows are also fairly new and well constructed. An older house/window frames may experience more rattling.

I'm interested in seeing how well this AC handles extreme heat. It seems to be doing OK when temps reach the 80's but I'm wondering if it can handle 90+. I'm also only trying to cool down just the bedroom. It would not be adequate for an entire apartment.
