Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA065P7A 6,000 BTU MSII Air Conditioner with Electronic ControlsCustomer Review: Great product for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I shopped around a lot before I decided to purchase this model. The reviews were mixed on this unit but I went with my gut and made the purchase. As mentioned by another reviewer, you MUST let the air conditioner sit for 24 hours after it is installed before you turn it on. This is true with all window units. If you don't, you will damage the compressor which in turn makes it very noisy. That's why I had to make this purchase. A family member decided to help me out by installing my old window unit while I was at work. Now that unit is so loud you can't sleep when it s running. Spend some time and put it in the window correctly and use dense foam underneath to absorb the vibration from the unit and it won't be any louder than a pedistal fan.
This AC was purchased to supplement the existing AC on the third floor of my house. If I set the thermostat for the third floor to be comfortable the second floor gets frozen out. With this unit I set the thermostat for the second floor and the window unit makes up the difference on the third floor. The room is approx. 350 sq. ft. which is larger than recommended for this unit but it does an excellent job.
Customer Review: Very nice Summary: 4 Stars
I am very satisfied with this product. It would have received 5 stars if it didn't cost me over $200. I had seen it on other sites, but after reading all the reviews here, when I went back they were all gone. Oh well.
It's very quiet, very efficient, and very nicely made. My only issue is with UPS, as the driver dropped the box at my door and the top bracket got bent. The way it was packed, the bracket was underneath the air conditioner, and the weight/force from being dropped caused the dent. It makes it a bit difficult to insert the side panel, but it's livable. It took me a couple weeks to get someone to help me install it; it's a two-person job if you're a short woman :) I didn't realize it was damaged until I went to install it. Thank goodness it was packaged very well, or who knows what would have transpired. Lesson learned - open and inspect packages right away.
As far as the vendor, I ordered it on Saturday and received it on Monday! Very impressive. I would definitely purchase from them again, and I highly recommend this unit. It has come in handy during the unbearable heat here in the Northeast.
Customer Review: No Drain! Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this 6K BTU unit and a 12KBTU unit just like it about one month ago to go into my mothers house.
The units work very well as far as cooling capacity however the 6K BTU unit has NO DRAIN hole!
It has poured 10 inches of rain in TN over the past two weeks and the water pours into the unit through the vent holes on the top of the unit.
The pan then becomes full of water. This unit has one fan motor that turns the fan blades that push air across the condensor on the outside and a blower that pushes cooled air out into the room.
The blades on the fan that cools the condensor hits the water that is laying in the pan preventing it to spin properly.
Twice I have had to remove the unit and pour the water out. Its full again!
I dont want to drill a drain hole because I think it is designed to "sling" condensed water from the evaperator onto the hot condensor to aid in removing heat from it.
The goons in their R and D never thought about rain water getting in the unit I suppose.
Think Im going to go ahead and drill the hole and hope for the best.
Customer Review: Cools okay: but, so much noise. Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this unit from Amazon a couple months ago to replace an old window unit in a medium sized bedroom. Installation was easy and a one-man job. The unit cools the room fine; and, aside from a loose (broken) air direction gizmo I had no real complaints at first. And while it still does a fine job cooling, it started getting noisier and noisier by the day. The air direction things (that do very poorly at directing the air flow in any certain direction) produce a lot of rattle as does the entire plastic front on the unit. I've had to start shimming little pieces of cardboard between the plastic front and metal case to keep the rattle to a tolerable level. And most recently when the compressor kicks on it makes a loud humming sound. So for use in a bedroom (or any room where loud noise is a problem) this unit was a poor choice. If I can put up with it through the rest of this summer, this unit will be headed for the trash in the fall.
As for the air ionizing feature on this unit - all I know is that the little indicator light says it's working. Who knows?
Customer Review: Had a Little Problem Summary: 4 Stars
First, the unit arrived with no external damage and the unit looked in perfect shape. However, after installing the unit in the window and turning it on while connected to a generator there was a problem in that the fan did not start up. The compressor kicked on after 3 minutes, yet the fan never started. I removed the unit and tried it on house current and the fan made a noise like it was hitting something. It was! A compressor coil. I carefully bent the coil for about a half inch clearance from the fan blade and it worked fine. Now how did that get by QC?
The unit has worked great since then, mostly driven from generator voltage (see other review of the generator) to cool a nice size room and provide relief from the cool breeze that comes as soon as the compressor starts.
As most have stated, it would be nice if you could direct the air flow left or right, but it pretty much just blows straight ahead, if slightly left or right by using the vent blades. Otherwise it is a champ!
