Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire FAA065P7A 6,000 BTU MSII Air Conditioner with Electronic ControlsCustomer Review: Coolin' A/C! Summary: 5 Stars
My previous A/C gave up the ghost! Set at the lowest temp and on high it acted as if I it was set at low 72 - better than the 100 / humid temperature outside, but not good enough for me. It also dripped water inside constantly. I research trying to find a better on; at an affordable price and found this one was rating high in Consumer Reports. Once installed and turned on, I realized how bad my previous A/C was from the beginning. It never cooled my room the way this one does. I sometimes find myself cold - and it's set to low 72! The noise is very bearable; just a white noise with a gentle noise from the motor tuning on and off. i highly recommend this. I remember reading the reviews beforehand and I think someone complained about it not working after installed. It's not a defect from the A/C - probably got damaged in transit or something (although I don't know how, as it's very well packaged) They should have just sent it back (although I KNOW that's a pain) not given it a bad review.
Customer Review: Decent efficient AC, but very loud without modifications Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of these to replace an oversized 8000 btu/hr window unit that was almost a decade old.
What worked:
1. Much lighter and easier to install than most window ACs I've used.
2. Good cooling for the energy used.
What didn't:
1. This is not a quiet unit by any stretch.
2. As the other reviewers have mentioned, there's no drainage to the drip pan. This would probably be okay, but in mine the fan is mounted such that the tips of the fan can actually make contact with the water if the drip pan is full (and the unit is installed properly and level). This results in a constant "sloshing" sound when run on high humidity days. As a result, I ended up (carefully, you don't want to hit the coils!) drilling a small drainhole in the drip pan, carefully coating the hole edge with silicone to keep the exposed metal from rusting. The unit now runs with just fan noise.
Customer Review: nice unit overall Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this unit instead of popular less expensive units at local improvement stores mainly because I really like Amazon and I wanted a higher efficiency unit. This unit cools very well and has very nice controls for an inexpensive window unit. I actually installed this through-wall in my case, which was easy to do. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the same as what some other reviewers mentioned...the drain holes. The drain hole is located towards the front of the unit at a higher elevation that other places in the pan. This is why the unit "swishes" when running - the standing water is being moved around. This is simply not necessary. I took 15 seconds to drill a drain hole in the back bottom corner (taking care not to penetrate beyond the hole itself so I didn't touch anything and damage it internally. The water all drains correctly and completely and the unit runs VERY quiet now.
Customer Review: Very pleased. Easy to install, not too loud, just enough cooling! Summary: 5 Stars
No complaints here. Installed in about 30 mins or so, and had the room cool shortly thereafter. I installed it in a downstairs room that we use for exercise, so we keep the thermostat set fairly high when not in use and then crank it down when it's time to work out. It pulls down the temperature in the room to a tolerable level by the time I'm done stretching and warming up, and has it nice and cool by the time I get a good sweat worked up.
It's not very loud. Don't know if home construction has anything to do with it, but our house is about 10 years old and the window is a metal framed generic builder's special type window. It's on a ground floor too, so it's only a couple feet off the slab, which may help too.
The remote works just as expected. All in all we're very pleased with this unit. It makes working out much more bearable!
Customer Review: Minimal Noise, energy efficient, what more do you want?! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a 6,000 BTU AC unit for my cozy studio apartment. As far as installation and weight, I cannot comment as I had it delivered and my super installed it for me.
But this baby works! I turned it on at night on the energy saver mode- basically it cools the room to a desired temp then goes on and off to maintain the temp- and left for the evening. The next morning, I walked into a deliciously cool but not freezing apartment!
As far as noise, I defy anyone to find a completely silent air conditioner. It's just not going to happen people! This one is much quieter than my old unit, which made it difficult to talk to people on the phone it was so loud! There is some noise, but nothing to really complain about.
I would buy this unit again and again! It was well worth the money!
