Customer Review: Good, sturdy A/C unit.

These do what they're supposed to do ... keep my home cool. The installation directions were abysmal, but it didn't really matter, I didn't use them. The sleeve in my wall is warped, so I had to devise my own installation method. (The sleeve is not removable and it's part of the original architecture of the building.) I ended up installing the two units I bought using shims and foam-in-a-can insulation that expands and DOESN'T BUDGE when it dries! Hey, it sounds like kind of half-assed installation job, but it works. The included grate and the trim hides the ugly orange foam from view, both on the outside of my home and on the inside. There are no gaps, no leaks, and no insects getting in my house. The summer that just passed was one of the most brutal on record, but my dogs and I stayed comfortable. My summer of 2010 electric bill was about the same as it was in the summer of 2009, even though I used my A/C much more this year than I used my A/C last year (when the old units were still installed), so I guess that "energy star" sticker really means something. My only complaint is that these units are NOT very quiet. Personally, I can sleep through anything, but if you want whisper-quiet units, these are not the ones to get.
