Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fulcrum Multi-Flex LED Task Light, Silver

Customer Review: Tried then all, this is the best
Summary: 4 Stars

I have gone through about 6 night lights and this is the best I think. The things I like:

1) The batteries are easily replaced - unlike others that require special batteries from an electronics store.
2) The whole neck/light part is adjustable - this is wonderful!! A lot of others don't have this.
3) The light has a warmer casting hue - easier on my eyes. Other LEDs I have tried have too blue a hue that ends up being harsh.
4) I sit it up on my desk sometimes when I am working late and need a task light (our bed is near my desk & the overhead light would disturb my hubby otherwise)
5) The beam is just wide enough to illuminate both pages at a time, unlike others where I had to adjust when moving to the second page of an open book (annoying!)

The down sides:

1) It's a bit heavy for a paperpack, but I am using it all the same. This isn't a big deal, but it worth mentioning.
2) It's a bit bulky so it doesn't pack as well as others I have had - but again this is getting pretty picky.
3) The light is on the bright side. Why is this a downside? My main reason for a night light is because my husband goes to bed much earlier than I do. I wish there was another setting that was slightly dimmer, but that is just in an ideal world. :) I just turn the light to shine away from him and it's still bright enough to light up the page.

Overall I really like it. The upsides definitely outweigh the downsides and I will definitely be buying another one to have on hand & use as stocking stuffers for our family.

Customer Review: Married insomniac's reading light
Summary: 5 Stars

One of my resolutions for the new year was to read ten pages of a motivational book every night. I've been able to keep that resolution so far, thanks to this handy, efficient reading light. It is lightweight, weighing only a fraction more than the batteries that power it (two AAA). It's white LED throws a good page and a half to two page lit area even when clipped directly to the book. The flexible neck moves easily, holds it shape, and supports the lighted head making it very easy to light the exact area you want lit. The head swivels which also helps to allow you to move the neck in various shapes and locations to keep your line of sight clear and to allow you and your book to change positions. The clip is just a little bulky and can slip from your grasp if you aren't holding it just right, but I haven't had any major problems other than dropping it once or twice. The best thing is that as bright as the light is, it is tightly focused and doesn't wake up the wife if I break it out in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. In fact, it doesn't even bother the cats sleeping on our bed. Because it is LED, the batteries I originally put in are still going strong. There may be a better compact reading light out there, but this one is really hard to beat and I've been quite satisfied with my purchase. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a personal lighting accessory for nighttime reading or writing.

Customer Review: Too bright and narrow for reading.
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm giving this light three stars even though I don't like its design. That's because I use it like all the time and it gets the job done well enough that I won't buy another one until this one dies.

The base/clip part of this light is way too heavy and huge and weirdly shaped for clipping on a book, especially a paperback. It makes the pages bend because the clip is so bulky. I often have to readjust the clip because the whole lamp is falling over to the side because of how heavy it is.

The light is too bright for reading in bed in the dark. It spills over the book and glares on other things, as well as it just being less comfortable to read a bright glowing page instead of a nice softly lit one.

The design of the neck is also not good for reading a book. It doesn't light both page sides evenly AT ALL so sometimes I find myself moving the light over whenever I switch pages- which, as you might imagine, is VERY annoying.

So the deal is that I'm often having to adjust the thing while trying to read. Ugh. On the plus side, it works and lasts a long time. Also I clip it to my bed frame sometimes and it's a very good night light.

This lamp is probably best for non-book uses. Or maybe if you have a way to set it up overhead (not clipped on the actual book) so it casts a bigger beam over a wide area, you could read by it nicely.

Customer Review: Almost Perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

The best part of this book light is its light distribution. LED light is very very tiny. Even on LED flashlights, often the problem is hotspots. Since the source of light is very small, it is almost impossible to use it for floodlights, unless of course, you use a bunch of them. For a single LED, it is amazing how it can achieve a very even distribution without hotspots. I doubt if you can find many similar products that offers the same value and features as this one has.

Calling it a task light is just appropriate as its use is not limited as a booklight. It requires 3 "AAAs" on its base and uses the weight as a table stand to support itself. The head and the neck is very light. You can position the LED at any angle as you can bend it not only up and down, left and right, it also twists on its metal neck. The switch is located on top of the head. Made in China.

Cons:
- although its strongest feature is light spread coverage. You will still not cover both pages of large books like kids' books and other bigger sized books.
- Batteries not included

Rooms for improvement:
- Only one side of the clip has an anti-slip foam pad. Place it on both sides to further prevent slipping.

Customer Review: Shedding light on the subject
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this item awhile ago at another vendor for twice the price. Even at the higher price it was worth it! I've had many book lights over the years and this one is THE best I've ever used. I first bought one for using at home for reading and quickly returned to buy another for my office. It is great for travel or in the library to supplement low or uneven lighting and it makes a wonderful gift! The soft rubber pad on the base and the gentle-but-firm tension in the clip allows it to be attached instantly to the edge of a book, a music stand, or a clipboard without leaving marks when removed. One of the nicer features is that, unlike many other book lights, it can stand easily on its own on a flat surface. The light beam from this tiny lamp is powerful illuminating a whole page rather than just a small portion. The flexible gooseneck allows the beam to be adjusted easily. Battery life is extraordinary. Using the lamp daily for hours at a time, the beam stayed strong and steady for over 4-5 months. The design and capability of this tiny lamp is just about perfect! Even nicer, it is available in red and blue as well as standard silver. (You can see all colors offered by searching for 'Fulcrum Multi Flex' on Amazon.)
