I used to have Sperry's old production unit for years, until I forgot to remove battery from it some time ago and leaky alkaline ate it from inside. This new one appears to be serious upgrade from the previous so I am somewhat glad I needed new unit. This one is small and semi-thin, feels almost like a highlighter, battery compartment is held with threaded machine screw in brass insert, sensitivity adjustment is very good, controls are convenient and non-nonsense, ergonomically designed shape feels right. It will show you live conduit behind the walls even from few inches away, so you can trace electrical wiring for purpose of repairs, updates or just safety when attempting to do things like hanging pictures and mirrors or before making cut-outs for niche or similar things. Considering wide voltage range of this sensor, you can even use it to troubleshoot problems with X-mas home electrical decorations or outdoor landscape path lights. To locate live wiring in say, standard electrical outlet, you do not have to plug anything in - simply place this sensor closer or even couple of inches away from the receptacle in question and press the button on the unit: if the outlet is "hot", the sensor will buzz and lit up immediately. This is a must-have thing to have around the house these days, unless you live in the tent or have no electricity to deal with. LOL
