Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE 19209 Wireless Door Chime with Two Push ButtonsCustomer Review: Don't buy it, buttons stick all the time! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this unit with very low expectations and very low needs. I just wanted a doorbell that would work for front and back doors. This unit is a catastrophic failure.
After less than two months of very light use, the buttons began to stick. After 4 months, both buttons stick almost all the time. If someone rings the doorbell, it continues to ring until you go outside and "un-stick" it. If a delivery person rings your doorbell while you are out, it will ring continuously until you return or until the batteries die. I thought there might just be a malfunction of one of the buttons, but both now fail most of the time. (And we have very few visitors.)
The unit is easy to program for front and back doors with distinctly different chimes. If the buttons worked properly, it would be great, but the buttons fail miserably, so it is a major annoyance. Something so simple makes it worse than useless.
Don't buy this unit!!!!
Customer Review: Clear and Loud Summary: 1 Stars
Being all battery operated means you can put the receiver anywhere without worrying about plugging it in. The transmitter has no problem sending the signal anywhere in my 3 story house and the bell sounds are loud and clear, not fuzzy and fake sounding. Large button is easy for visitors to see and push. Infinitely better than the absolutely unsatisfactory Heath Zenith unit it replaced.
UPDATE TO SEPTEMBER 2010: Like the other negative reviews point out, the doorbells stick. They stick when it's hot, when it's cold, when it's humid, when it's dry. I have to carry something with me to the door so I can tap the bell while the guest or delivery person stands there wondering why I'm beating up my doorbell. I tried lubricating it, I tried using dry graphite, but nothing works to keep both bells from sticking. Completely ruins the product for me. Luckily, nobody's pushed it while I wasn't home or the dog would go crazy when it kept ringing.
Customer Review: Not for cold climates. Summary: 2 Stars
Pros:
Easy set-up; strong adhesive if you don't want to drill holes; choice of tones; two buttons; inexpensive.
Cons:
Cheaply made; buttons sticks in Minnesota climate (tried a little WD40 with no luck yet); very tinny sound; too loud; tones other than Westminster chimes are plain silly (foghorn, cuckoo, gong); cheap plastic parts; only two jumpers which are the way to change channels so that there isn't interference from other units. (The last disadvantage hasn't been a problem for us, but if your chime sounds off with no apparent reason, it's likely because someone else is using the same channels. Would be a potential problem in high population density areas.)
I would not recommend this product. I wish someone made a nice-looking metal doorbell with good sounding chimes. I would pay $100 or more for a good one so I could avoid rewiring my old house.
Customer Review: Very poor quality Summary: 1 Stars
The absolute worst part of this piece of garbage is that the button sticks when pressed - leading to the chimes going off ENDLESSLY! It can be tough to unstick the button - a real rage inducing situation as the bell chimes on and on and you can't get it to turn off - while your visitor squirms for having pushed the bell in the first place.
The other drawback, which compounds the first, is there is no way to control the volume of the bell . . . it is incredibly loud and if you are in the room where the bell is, it blows you out of your seat with its tone.
Combine this with the fact that it won't stop going off, and you realize what a bunch of chimps must have designed this thing. Quality control - non-existent.
Thanks for nothing.
Customer Review: YES I AM HOME BUT I DIDN'T HEAR YOU KNOCKING Summary: 5 Stars
After the original door bell went kaput, I had not replaced it for over 8 months.
I then was missing people who stopped, so I ordered this great replacement. It is perfect. Easy to hear, pleasant and I set one chime for the front door and one for the back. This allows me to know what door I need to answer. The old door bell always had the dogs barking and barking. This door bell chimes do not upset them or even have them running or barking to the door.
I bought one for my nephew has a house warming present and he is answering the door of his older home.
So this is what you need to replace your bell. 10 minutes to install and it comes with two buttons when most kits only came with one.
