Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE 19209 Wireless Door Chime with Two Push Buttons

Customer Review: Defective Design
Summary: 1 Stars

As numerous other reviewers have reported, the buttons (both of mine) frequently stick, causing the chime to sound endlessly. Additionally, if they aren't pressed all the way in, they still click as though they were (leading the visitor to mistakenly believe that the chime has sounded). Yes, astonishingly, this product's defective design causes it to either be triggered too much or not triggered at all.

I experienced both problems this morning (an endless chime when the FedEx guy arrived and a missed appointment with a carpet salesman when the chime failed to sound), which is what reminded me to write this review. I'll be replacing this product as soon as possible.

Customer Review: Stopped working
Summary: 1 Stars

This unit stopped working after only a couple months. GE Consumer Affairs is not interested in caring about this issue - I tested the batteries and they were fine, but put new ones in both the unit and both push buttons just in case. Got the PDF file for troubleshooting and all is well in all options there. It just quit working and GE quit caring. It took two letters to be even acknowledged and they passed me off to some place I can pay more than the cost of a new one to have it looked at. This may not be an item that matters in their profit margins, but I will never buy GE again!

Customer Review: Loud (good) but poor range (bad)
Summary: 2 Stars

This would be a great doorbell for large spaces or hard-of-hearing users because of its very loud speaker. Unfortunately, the transmission range is horrible. I have the receiver less than 25 feet from the transmitter, and it rings only half the time. There's a warning in the box that says the transmitter button should not be placed on a metal surface -- but it's a DOORbell, and front doors are made out of metal! (Sort of like selling cookies with a warning saying, "Don't put near your mouth.") So this is pretty much useless unless you have a curtain or wooden plank for a door.

Customer Review: Not worth my time or money again
Summary: 2 Stars

Bought the 19208 model that plugs into an outlet, because I don't like replacing batteries. The chime worked maybe 3 out of ten times. Thought maybe the battery in the remote was low, so I ran back to the store and bought new batteries. It still worked the same, about 3 out of ten times, even at point blank range. This is unacceptable when you're trying to run a business and a customer pushes the button, and there's no chime. I'll return the unit for a full refund and keep looking at different kinds. If worse comes to worse, I'll have to hard wire some kind of a bell.

Customer Review: Worthless!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

Maybe it's just my dumb luck because some reviews are fine. I threw away my money. Like another review said, both buttons sticked in the on position from the time I purchased the door bell. I kept thinking they would "loosen" up and work correctly...never did.
Numerous times in the dead of a Michigan winter, I was on my porch with a visitor, trying to get the damn button un stuck. Other times Fed Ex or someone would ring the bell when I was gone so the thing kept ringing till the batteries died. First time I ever have done a review but this pushed me over the edge.
