Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE 50723 LED Motion Sensing Night Light

Customer Review: You Get What You Pay For.
Summary: 5 Stars

Over the past 2-3 years, I have ordered 10 of these night lights, and they have ALL worked flawlessly. This is a very high quality product and worth the high-end price of $12. If you don't like the included "clear" 4-watt bulb, GE's "frosted" 4-watt replacement bulbs are widely available as well. However, these night lights are UL rated at a MAXIMUM of 4-watts, so I would NOT recommend using any of those other higher 7-watt replacement bulbs out there. Anyway, 4-watts is the standard wattage in retail night lights, so these will have no problem lighting up a room or long hallway.

Favorite Features:

1. The full-range motion sensor is incredibly sensitive and consistent.
2. The 60-second timer is MUCH better than other 30-second lights.
3. An additional light sensor prevents false daytime activations.
4. With no obstructions, I get an activation from 10-12 feet away.
5. Nice modern looking design.

What more can you ask for?

Customer Review: Nice and bright... maybe little too bright
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this awhile ago for kitchen and was very happy with it. Just bought it again for my bedroom after stepping on the tail of my dog one night. This is a newer model with white bulb and smaller in size comparing to the old one. It has very good sensor and pick up small movement as I got off bed even I'm far from the light.

It's VERY bright - to the level that woke up my husband every time it lite up, and he's a deep sleeper. Because of it's sensitive sensor, it lite up even when my dog woke up and just walked around. Husband complained so I had to put it to the living room instead.

It is perfect for stairway or kitchen if you need water at the middle of the night; or anywhere you need bright light source. It's not for bedroom if you don't want your other half knows how many times you go to bathroom at night.

Ended up getting a super dim night light that won't blind anyone but good enough not to step on dog's tail.

Customer Review: Great nightlight for bathroom
Summary: 5 Stars

Like the title says... its great for the bathroom. I plugged it in "upside down" so that the round sensor is on the upper side. This way the light shines on the floor (and not up toward your eyes) when you get up for a mid-night whiz.

I've noticed that if you walk in and then turn the lights on the nightlight will still light up and run for the usual time. But if you reach in the door and turn the light on and then walk in the nightlight stays off.
Apparently once the motion sensor turns on the light it stays on the full time, even with other lights on. Not a big deal, but thought I'd mention it. Now that I think about it... this might be to keep the nightlight from turning itself off... if you had it in a small area the light from the nightlight could trigger the light sensor and turn it right back off again.

Anyway.... its a nice nightlight for areas you only need light when you are in them... like a bathroom or a closet.

Customer Review: Great when the motion detector works.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought two of the Maxxima night lights at the same time. One type is in a rather dark hall way and works very well but they are bright enough that I have started closing the bedroom door so I can sleep in the dark.

I like this sensor because it is not so bright. It is more than enough to find our way around in the bathroom. My favorite feature is the motion detector as it shuts the light off when we get back to bed...when it works. It does work most of the time, but every once in a while it just stays on.

I had one of the two level Maxxima lights in the bathroom and it was too bright. I was happy when the GE came just because it is not as bright. When it turns on and off with motion I REALLY like it.

Turning the night light over so the sensor is on top seems to make the motion detector work. If you are having motion detector problems then try turning it over.

Customer Review: Do I have rats?
Summary: 3 Stars

This is really annoying in my bedroom. It keeps waking up at random times in the middle of the night, when I promise I'm lying very still under my covers. I keep wondering if it's picking up a bunch of rats that only come out at night, but I'm sure it's not.

I'm probably going to put this in a closet somewhere and get another night light for my bedroom, because I was looking for something with a more accurate motion sensor.

Pros:
+Very inexpensive lighting
+Random lighting effect would be great to make it look like people are home when you're really not
+For a bigger light, still only uses one outlet of a two-outlet plug
+Gentle light, brighter than some, but not super bright

Cons:
-Bad for a bedroom, because of randomness, but would be good for a garage or closet
-Seems bulky, even though it's really not that big
