Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE 51137 Switch Kit, 3 Piece Wall Ceiling Light with Socket Adaptor-Wall MountCustomer Review: Great product and does what it says Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for an Outdoor spot light even though the product says Indoor only. My outdoor spotlight switch is outside and its a real inconveince to get to where the switch is everytime I need to go outside. Also, the spotlight is under a tarp so no rain or snow ever gets to it. Initially I bought 2 sets because my spot lights have 2 bulbs. (buying 2 sets made sense because buying just the socket alone was roughly the same price as the set)
I wanted to control the 2 spot lights outside with 1 switch. I am very knowledable when it comes to handy work and this was difficult to do and let me explain why.
On the sockets there is a dial to select from 1-8 (1-8 cause these units allow 1 switch to 8 sockets, GOOD LUCK with that) and on the switch is the same dial 1-8. If you want to control 2 sockets with 1 switch, the dial on both the socket and switch have to be EXACT. Even though the switch is on 1 and the socket is on 1, it may not work. The switch dial has a little jiggle when moving left and right so you have to move it a hair to the left or right until the switch goes on which is why I said GOOD LUCK setting up multiple ones. If you have to go to 8 then back to 1, you have to get it EXACT for the socket to turn on.
When I hooked up 2 sockets to 1 switch I had the above issue. I would put the switch to dial 1 and only 1 socket would go on. I jiggle the dial on the switch a little then the other socket would go on. I would have to do the same thing for the both sockets to go off.
In the end what I did to get this to work was I bought a socket splitter and attaches only 1 receiver and 1 switch to 2 light bulbs. So it goes like this Outdoor spotlight > 1 GE socket reciver > Socker splitter > 2 spotlight bulbs. The switch is set to 1 and the socket is set to 1 and now both bulbs go on when pressing on or off with ease.
BTW, if anyone is wondering how the button feels, its not a switch or a click, its a simple button as if you were pressing on a TV remote control.
Pros:
-Wireless socket with switch
-Ease of install if using only 1 set
Cons:
-Difficult if setting up more than 1
Conclusion:
-I reccommend this product only if you are using 1 set or if you are using 2 sets and setting it up how I did. If you will be using 1 switch on multiple lights in the house, I would suggest to use 2 switches or try and set it up somehow on 2 different channels.
