My children's room is not on the same floor of the house as me, so I like to know what my kids are dooing. A few years ago my (then) 5 year old was opening his window in his room and throwing his toys in the back yard for his friend to come and get. Ever since then I've kept alarms on the windows. I bought these alarms for my new house last year. And testing shows I can hear them with the tv on both in that room and the room I am in on another floor of the house. That's pretty good! While I mostly use these to hear if someone is trying to get in, it's nice to be able to keep track of my kids without actually having to see them. When I go to bed at night I check to be sure they haven't turned the switch to OFF -- and I spoke to the kids about this at length - and not once have they played with it. I think it's also exciting because they're old enough and we have actual safety drills where I let them climb out a window... They know safety - but this just helps me sleep a little better.
