This is a very powerful UV flashlight and it will definitely reveal any unwanted substances in carpet or textiles. The only annoyance I would mention is that the battery compartment was loose inside my flashlight body and I had to wrap a 1 by 4 inch piece of thick paper around the battery holder so that it fits snugly inside the flashlight. When the battery holder is secured, the light is less likely to flicker during operation. This doesn't bother me too much because I have so many flashlights with this shortcoming that I just automatically roll up some paper around the battery case and they usually work fine after that.
The light is powerful and appears to have an effective range of about 20 to 40 feet depending on conditions. You should avoid shining this in the eyes because UV light exposure is supposed to be harmful. I'd recommend you search the web for more information on this since the articles and web pages I looked at were contradictory. Overall, I would definitely recommend this light.

I have found other uses than what are typically posted.. one useful tip when buying sunglasses.. bring this flashlight to the store when picking out sunglasses advertised as "uv protection" (when shining this deep purple wavelength through the lens, the light on the other side should "shift" to a more visible wavelength (yellowish/white color, or just reflect it completely with no visible purple light on the other side of the lens) If this is not happening, chances are that the sunglasses are mis advertised..
anyhow, great product/recieved quickly etc
ps do not shine into your eyes,.. its like looking directly into the sun on a clear summers day..!! U have been warned!

It works great on scorpions (I own 25 different species, 48 individuals total), cat urine stains (turn off the lights to get the best view, sometimes its not a view of your carpet you want to see), clothing, car fluid leaks (any type of fluid that illuminates will light up with this light) and some rocks/minerals that glow under ultraviolet (not all of my collection glowed under the light, but thats because I have close to 40 pieces that glow under short wave and long wave UV, this light only illuminated the long wave). Its not as bright as some LED UV lights but as long as its dark outside/inside this light will do what you want it to do. Remember, the light has a better distance than a fluorescent UV, but its still not going to be amazing unless its dark.Customer Review: Solid UV Flashlight, but a minor QA Issue

I purchased this flashlight to find "presents" that my sneaky dog left on the carpet, so that I could then treat them with an enzymatic cleaner. The flashlight arrived very quickly and performs well. You'll be shocked at what you discover in your carpet! The only reason that I did not give this item 5 stars is due to the battery holder. The holder houses 3 AAA batteries. One of the compartments did not have a spring for the battery on the metal tabs. As a result, the flashlight often cuts in and out. I'm forced to adjust the battery's tab so that it makes sufficient contact to work. I'm a bit surprised as the flashlight box was stickered with a quality label. I test it it at night directly to my dogs little peeing plastic hydrant and id did not shine any differently. The urine was still wet!
I bought it to find stains where my yorkie had peed and it is USELESS for that purpose.
Although it is truly a UV light because my credit card and driver's license and other materials did show hidden marks, particularly for dog urine is useless.
It is of good quality good size and it is bright. It should be good for people that need to check dollar bills, fake documents and other stuff.
