Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gardus RLE202 LintEater 10-Piece Rotary Dryer Vent Cleaning System

Customer Review: Easy and effective tool
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is well designed and easy to use. The directions are helpful and show exactly how to properly use this to clean your dryer vents. A DVD is also included, but the written directions were clear enough that I did not use it.

I have a long run of about 25 feet with several 90 degree connections along the way. I was concerned that the brush or extensions would become jammed - this did not happen. I was careful to make sure that the extensions were properly connected to one another and that a small amount of duct tape was used at each join as instructed. It seems important to run the drill in a clockwise fashion to minimize the risk of disconnection the joins of the extensions - the directions are rather clear on this point. My 14.4 cordless drill had plenty of power to complete the job and was easier to use than a corded drill. I also used a shop vac and the included adapter to catch lint and dust on the non-auger end of the vent tubing.

I cleaned my entire run in about 15 minutes of total work. For what you get the price may be a bit high, but I'm sure that the overall cost to do this yourself over several uses would be much less costly than hiring a professional to do the same.

Customer Review: Very Good Tool
Summary: 4 Stars

This tool is great. I ranked it 4 only bc I was not the one to use it- my hubby did the work and he is not here to say if it is a 5 or not.

He had no trouble following the directions and since our dryer was being replaced he was able to clean the vent from both ends. We have a very long vent- over 15 ft. so getting in from both ends was important. On one end he used the tool attached to the drill and he placed the shop vac at the other end. Then he changed ends and did it again. He says next time he will do it all from the outside and just put the shopvac in next to the rotary cleaner and let it suck the debris up. This is so he will not have to move the new dryer and take off the vent which has been very securely mounted onto the dryer when the guys came to install the dryer last week. My husband feels that the vent will still get well cleaned from the one end. If your vent is shorter then the tool extensions you have no worries!

We had been quoted $125- $250 to have this work done! Now we can keep up with it and hopefully get a longer life form our dryer and better drying times.

I am so glad we bought this!

Customer Review: a very good system
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a well put together kit, with all the parts you need and clear instructions. The DVD is quite helpful, and all you really need to do is to watch it. I had a buddy helping me, which is not necessary but I recommend it. Together it took us about 40 minutes, which included about 15 minutes of trying to get the @%@#*$% hose back on the dryer.

This system really does work. The amount of time it takes to dry my clothes has dropped remarkably, 10 to 15 minutes less per load. Even at 10 to 15 minutes less per load, the stuff comes out bone dry. The kit is totally reuseable, so the owner can box it back up and haul it out again in a year. A handyman would charge (in my area) $100 to $125 to clean the dryer hose, so this is a great deal.

I did find, though, that my wimpy 12 volt drill did not have enough umph to really spin the brush. My 19.2 volt drill, though, did the trick no problem. A stout corded drill would probably be up to the task as well. I also found that I did a good bit of cleaning up inside the dryer itself. Lots of lint stuck up in there. Don't neglect that part of the job.

This is a good system and I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Works Like A Champ!
Summary: 5 Stars

Since we moved in to this house a few months ago, the dryer has never worked properly. There is about 13' of duct between the laundry room wall and the outside of the house, and I had a strong suspicion that the duct was the problem.

I spent a couple hours using the auger brush, the blockage removal tool, and all four of the rods to clean the duct from both ends. It worked great! I was shocked at the giant wads of lint that came out of the duct. No wonder it was taking forever to dry anything! After using the LintEater, I dried a king-size blanket in record time. The difference in performance is simply amazing!

This is a useful tool to have, and it is definitely sturdy enough for multiple uses. Now that the duct is clean, I expect that a quick pass every year or two with the auger brush will be all that's needed to keep the duct clean, safe from fires, and flowing free.

Because I have a shop vacuum with a 4" hose, I didn't need to use the Vacuum Adapter or Dryer Adapter, so I can't vouch for them, but they both seem to be sturdy enough for the job; Though I suspect actually using the Vacuum Adapter might be a bit fussy and/or frustrating.

After 11 years of neglect, my wife complained about our clothes not fully drying. I cleaned the dryer then focused my attention onto the ducting to the outside. Since my home has a poorly designed duct which is at least 20+ feet, I purchased the basic Linteater with the 12' extension kit from my local Ace Hardware. This is a very well designed and constructed unit. I followed all the instructions, connecting my 1/2hp shop vac to in place of the dryer. Then I started reaming the duct from the outside working back inside. When I finally stopped, I had used over 20Ft of rod and then I noticed there was no longer any air suction. Then linteater had freed up so much lint that the junction near the dryer had clogged! After a lot of work, I cleared the blockage and now I have a perfectly clean duct. My lesson learned is to feed the lint eater in very slowly to allow the lint to be vacuumed up without blocking the duct. I had collected enough lint to fill a 13 gallon trash bag! I could not have done it without this tool. The added bristle brush can also be used to eliminate dust from your refrigerator coils. A very well designed product!
