Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gardus RLE202 LintEater 10-Piece Rotary Dryer Vent Cleaning SystemCustomer Review: Worked very well Summary: 5 Stars
We have a 15' long vent that needed cleaning and, in short, this system worked very well! Just a couple notes: 1) follow the directions! The instructions tell you not to add the next rod until the prior rod is 2/3s of the way into the vent. It might look easier to try to connect 2 or 3 rods to your drill and then attempt to feed the whole thing into the vent, but that does not work! The rods are so flexible that the torque from the drill will start spinning them around like a jump rope! Just follow the directions and it works as the vendor promises. 2) The adapter for the vacuum is to fit a shop vac. So if you don't have one you'll have to use a regular vacuum. But it won't easily fit the adapter so you may need to use a bit of 2" wide tape to connect it to the end of the vent. Perfectly easy to do, but an extra step. 3) Finally, our package came with a short DVD that futher illusrtated how to do the job. Very nice touch.
In summary: Good system that worked as the ad said it would. Took me about 60 mins from when I started the job to having completed the job with everything cleaned up and the dryer back in working order.
Customer Review: Excellent product Summary: 5 Stars
I used this product last weekend. It worked very well and the instructions are not really necessary, except for the obvious caveats, like not reversing the drill, reduce the drill torque to minimum, and if it seems like its getting stuck work from the other direction. I used the dryer to blow the lint out of half, and the shop vac to suck the lint toward the dryer for the second half. I needed the extension kit because my run is over 40 ft.
The only problem I had was with the small lint cleaning brush for the dryer itself was defective because it was un-threaded. I called Gardus and they called me back on Monday, and I explained the defect and they just sent me a new one that arrived two days later, (I did not have to return the defective brush).
Also note that on my unit the rotary brush has a metal threaded insert...so they have recognised that plastic threading was insufficient and improved their design.
It worked very well and did a stunning job of cleaning out the lint, even from the 12 ft of flexible aluminum pipe that joins the dryer to the ridged pipe.
Customer Review: Love, Love, Love! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a terrific product. Using this tool, we got tons and tons of lint out of the duct system from our dryer to the outside vent. If we had waited much longer to clean this duct we would have had a fire hazard. Lucky for us, the dryer quit getting the clothes dry, so it was our early warning system! I was also fortunate to have read all the previous reviews of this product so I knew it would work, even if we didn't use it exactly like the instructions said to. We did not use a vacuum, but used the brush and extenders like a probe which pushed the lint out of the outside duct. We removed the duct cover from the outside wall first and were able to get it started by manually pulling some of the compacted lint through the outside opening. Then we used the brush and extender "probe" to push forward more of the lint until all of it had been removed. My adult son did the actual work and he said we had about 12 tons of lint in there ( a slight exageration I'm sure). Because we didn't use the vacuum, we created a mess on the driveway, but a broom and dust pan made short work of that. Worth every penny!
Customer Review: Handles even the toughest ducts Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical ordering this product because I felt my dryer duct was so unique. I live on the second floor of a four-unit building, and my dryer duct travels under my floor 20' to get to the outside. On the outside, there's about a 15' drop to the ground. The ground is also sloped, so I can't put a ladder there without digging a platform. Plus, I don't even have a ladder to begin with.
And so, I was going to have to clean my dryer duct just from the inside-out, using the 12' extension. I initially tried the wide-brush, but by the 19th foot, it got stuck. I then pulled it out, and changed the brush to the claw. When I snaked this through the duct, it punched all the way through! I went outside and I could see that the claw had taken a bird's nest with it! I then replaced the claw with the wide-brush, but again it got stuck. I finally cut the bristles on the wide brush by a third, and that finally went all the way through.
Thanks Gardus, I'm glad I didn't have to pay some pricey technician just to get my dryer working in top shape again!
Customer Review: Work as promised Summary: 5 Stars
Follow the DVD instruction and manual then you are golden. I have no problem cleaning out my air drier docks even when all lent seems to be wet. My dock were cloged to the point only small amount of air can pass through. Thus I think it cause the drier burner temp gage shut off heat prematurely. Clothes are drying double if not triple amount of time. And also this cause the low temperature and humid air output then later cause existing clogged lent to become wet as well thus clogged up some more. This kit clean it all OUT ~~~!!! Even with the wet and compacted lent, it has no problem to spin it loose. Due to our home construction the dryer exouse dock is locate further then 12 feet from external vent and the lent were wet. I had to use the provided vacuum adapter to SUCK on one end then repeat on the other end to clear out the whole pipe. In the end, I have successfully clear out the dryer vent without calling the costly professional dock cleaner and gotten a cudos then used it on going out watching the game with the boys in the afternoon ^_^
