Customer Review: Works, but brush attachment is fragile

I used this to clean my 22 foot vent run. While it does work, the instructions to set the drill clutch slip point could use some work. I set it as described, but still stripped out the vent brush, during the first use. The brush hub is plastic and the flexible rod that screws into it is too small, so the threads in the plastic strip easily. This would be an easily fixed design error, and I guess I'll have to fix the stripped brush on my own, I just don't think I should have to. I tried to contact Gardus to get a replacement, but got no response. So I suspect that this is a common occurrence and is too expensive for them to either correct the brush design or give replacements for failed parts. The parts in the box are useful for cleaning both the vent and the dryer. Other than the brush being easily damaged, it is a well thought out kit.
Update...a new brush showed up on my door step today. Gardus came thru with a replacement part.

I originally used a leaf blower to blow out our dryer duct when we first moved into our 30 year old home. A LOT of lint came out and my wife was happy with the results. Even so, we still decided to purchase this kit and clean it properly. WOW, it was amazing to see that much more junk come out!
The process was pretty easy. It took me longer to clean out the laundry fan itself than to clean both ducts.
I used the dryer to blow out the lint. My duct was pretty plugged up so I cleaned it a little bit at a time. There wasn't enough airflow to blow out the big chunks of lint, so I had to jiggle the brush around a lot to knock it out in smaller bits. You definitely do NOT want to get that brush stuck halfway in the duct! The duct had three elbows. One was a pain. It must have been quite plugged. The brush slipped right through the other two so quickly that I was surprised when I hit the end!

Our dryer vent was completely clogged with a bird nest. We have second story laundry that vents out onto our roof and could not clean it from the outside because of the height and steepness of the roof. This product easily cleaned the bird nest from the inside. There is a "claw" attachment included for clogs that we used first. Then the brush cleaned out the rest of the straw and lint. The directions were easy to follow. We purchased the extra 12 feet extention and we definitely needed it. It was also easier to do as a 2 person job rather that one. We did not have a shop vac but used out regular vacuum with duct tape around the nozzle. I cleaned most of the lint and straw out first, then went back and used the vacuum the second go around. I can't believe how much lint came out! It is a miracle we haven't had a dryer fire. We will be using this a couple times per year and recommending it to our neighbors! I was a bit worried about other reviewers' tales of woe of the device breaking off inside the vent. Mine worked fine. We have a long run, about 18 feet of pipe to the outside, with 3 elbows. Slowly feeding the sweep in from the outside using a cordless drill, while running a vacuum (just a regular one, duct-taped to the adapter provided), all went great, other than the vacuum getting plugged at one point from the large amount of lint loosened. The device reached most of the way through our run, with the last few feet being cleared by going from the inside.
Before cleaning the vent: our newish dryer was taking 3-4 runs to dry a large load. Washing and drying the clothes took constant attention and much of the weekend.
After cleaning: one run now fully dries all but the most layered clothes (e.g., hoodies' hoods).
Best money and time I've spent in a good long while.

This item is well made in my opinion. Really simple to use. Started out with just cleaning the dryer of lint. That change when I looked in the dryer vent. My vent had about a 1-2" opening in the 4" duct. I wasn't going to reinstall the dryer on a nearly clogged duct. Short story long I bought the 10 piece kit and started inside (7' vertical rise then a 90 elbow and approximately 16-18' run) Shop vac and a drill and the vertical was clean as new. I then use the dryer to blow the lint out as I cleaned the horizontal duct from the exterior. I used all the extension rods that are included and wish I had spent the extra on the extension kit. Caution- Wear a dust mask and eye protection. There was a whole bushel of lint, or at least it seemed so as the lint snowed down for nearly 10 minutes. Oh, I would recommend the vent bag or lint bag accessory that will keep the lint off of you. Two opposable thumbs up!
