Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gardus RLE202 LintEater Dryer Vent Cleaning SystemCustomer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 StarsI had been having problems with my dryer for the past couple of weeks. It all began with a piece of bad ducting put in but the home builders that acted like the perfect lint trap behind the dryer. Well, eventually the lint buildup was enough to take the ducting apart and I looked behind the dryer only to find a giant clog and lint all over the floor and wall. Well, I cleaned everything out that I could inside and outside and it still took forever to dry.
I read a bunch of "How To's" on what might be wrong so I measured all the resistances on the heating element, thermal cutoffs, etc and they all read to spec. So I figured it might be the ducting still, I have two 90° in my ducting so I figured it was caught in one of those and pretty plugged up to not be working. So rather than root around in my attic and try and find where they buried the ducting in the insulation I decided to buy this thing off of here. It's about $10-15 cheaper on amazon than hardware stores or home improvement stores.
I was kind of skeptical, but figured what the hell. I was pleasantly surprised, the auger brush hooked easily into my cordless drill and fed itself through the ducting. I bought the extensions because my ducting goes 27'. But it cleaned it out very well and is very easy to use. It even bent easily around the 90° I thought was plugged. The pile of lint that came out would help explain why my dryer is now shot. No airflow equals a no-no for dryers...they need it for internal cooling...and gas removal for gas dryers (CO). But at least now I have this so I can clean my ducting out once in a while to keep the new dryer from burning up. It was an old dryer anyways so it was about time to replace it and the washer which is also having issues. But I definitely recommend this to anyone.
One thing you can check to see if it the ducting rather than the dryer too is let your dryer run disconnected from the vent. won't actually hurt anything for one load.
Customer Review: excellent Summary: 5 Starsthis product worked just like it is advertised. my dryer runs much more efficiently and i have peace of mind knowing there is not extra dryer lint caught in the tube with the potential to catch fire.
Customer Review: Works Like Magic! Summary: 5 StarsI could not have asked for a better product. The vent was so clogged with lint and airflow so restricted that the dryer was overheating and shutting down. This thing pulled enough lint from my 25' of venting to half fill a white, kitchen trash bag. I was astounded by the amount of lint this thing pulled out.
Very easy to use, it worked its way through six corners with ease. I took about 40 minutes to finish, including cleaning from both directions. The only small complaint I have is that the shopvac adapter is big, bigger than most household vacuum hoses and the hose of my smaller shopvac. A bit of duct tape quickly remedied the mismatch, though.
I can't remember the last time I was this satisfied with a product that does exactly what it claims to do.
Customer Review: Works like a champ on the dryer vent, not so well on the gutter Summary: 5 StarsMy wife noticed the drying time taking longer and longer, almost to the point of us kicking the 2-year-old Whirlpool Duet out to the curb. She found this product via a Google search for sources of long drying times. I read the several positive comments and thought it made sense that our vent may be clogged with lint. I had the 15+ foot dryer vent cleaned in less than an hour, including cleaning from the roof (vertical run from the dryer to roof) access and from the garage connection next to the dryer itself. After the cleaning, I swept up a decent pile of lint, just as others had reported. We are both surprised how much better the dryer now works. Drying time was reduced from about 2 hours down to 45 minutes for the toughest-to-dry clothes. I really recommend that you try this before calling the service technician out to tell you that the dryer works fine.
The cleaning system also says it can clean gutter drain spouts. I tried using the flex rods and the special blade attachment provided in the box. It worked pretty well but caught itself on some tight turns and bends. Those rods are not very forgiving if you get them extra twisted, especially on a powerful cordless drill. I didn't have any problems when cleaning the dryer vent with the larger diameter metal tubing. I think this product is best used for the dryer vents as it was designed; make sure you use good common sense and wear your eye protection and keep the drill torque/speeds on the low side.
Customer Review: Good product works as described Summary: 4 StarsI used this product to clean my Drier vent ran into some problem, but all were self induced. The vent was as clean as new when I was complete, really helped my peice of mind, and the dryer works much better. Highly Recommend doing this!
