This product is outstanding. I had great difficulty finding such a light with removable and rechargeable batteries until I found this, and unfortunately, as of this writing, it has been discontinued by Garrity/Duracell, so you will have to buy it from a place that currently has them in stock.
Its nightlight is from the warm glow of a replaceable, light-sensing, incandescent bulb on top that automatically turns on in the dark and off in daylight. Its emergency/power-failure/flash-light is provided by the bright glow of an LED on the bottom that appears to be non-replaceable; however, it is expected to last 100,000 hours which is probably a lifetime as long as you don't use the flashlight or emergency lights continuously. Simply remove it from the wall plug, and the LED/flashlight comes on when in the "auto" position, or leave it plugged in and the LED comes on whenever the power fails.
Although this item doesn't have a "plug-through" feature (a plug receptacle on its face that allows you to plug another device into it), it only covers the one outlet in which it's plugged unlike others that block the adjacent outlet as well.
Perhaps best of all, it uses 3 replaceable and rechargeable Ni-MH batteries which can be purchased at most grocery stores. If you've bought other such lights before without this feature, they are disposed of in the trash when the batteries will no longer accept a charge unlike this product.
Because it has been discontinued, I experienced great difficulty in finding a place in which to buy it. I even placed 3 online orders with separate sellers, and all of them were cancelled when they realized that the item wasn't in stock and that the manufacturer didn't have any to ship. I wanted 13, so I attempted to contact Amazon's current provider, Sun & Moon Ecolight, via emails and telephone calls to see if they could provide a price-break, but I never received a reply and I was never able to contact anyone. I therefore kept searching the net and ended up finding and buying them elsewhere.

Garrity used to make an old emergency light/ blue LCD nightlight many years ago and they are still working today. So when I couldn't locate the old one I looked at their new nightlight/ emergency light. Garrity had a good product before. This one is better. Nightlight isn't too bright. The emergency light is bright enough to light a hallway or room. The emergency light will stay on longer than the old one. The new one only covers one electric outlet. The old one covered both. Both old and new could be detached from the outlet and used as a flashlight. I bought six for my home and was so pleased I bought more to replace the old ones I gave to my parents. Only feature I would like them to add is a switch to turn the nightlight portion off, if desired, and still have the emergency light on if the power goes out. GREAT PRODUCT! The nightlight has a standard incandescent lamp that is reasonable, but not too bright. Because it is not running at full intensity it should last a long time (also produces less heat). Other things I like are; if the utility power goes out the LED stays lit about 12 hours on batteries (longer than most others). In addition, the batteries are user replaceable with three AAA Ni-MH cells. Be sure to use only Ni-MH cells so they charge properly and do not overheat. Lastly, the design is decent - plug it into the lower outlet and the upper is still accessible.Customer Review: Quality & Compact Item

Finally, an emergency night light with replaceable batteries. It uses 3 AAA NiMh batteries. My wife and I both like this item. With a clear or white 4 watt night light bulb it glows orange which works fine. However, I purchased this knowing I was going to switch out the bulb with an LED night light bulb. My wife likes how dim it is now and I will never have to replace the bulb.
Overall, the appearance of the item blends in well with the bathroom decor and is compact, I would definately buy again.
