Tools and Hardware Reviews of Genie GICT390-1BL One-Button Remote Control with Intellicode

Customer Review: Unpinch a few pennies for this remote...
Summary: 5 Stars

I was in the market for a replacement remote when one of my room-mates moved out and didn't give me his remote! I was stuck between this model and the larger direct replacement model [GIT-1BL] simply because of the price difference. I decided to get this model since I felt the smaller size would be easier to tuck away in the car. I've never been a fan of having a garage door opener on my visor.

Like all the other reviews state, this is super easy to set-up and requires little more than a small step ladder for programming.

The size is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the GIT-1BL. Well worth the extra $$ if you're someone who tucks your opener out of sight and only need one button!

The range is a bit better than my original remote and now the door opens completely by the time I'm ready to park.

The only issue might be for older folks who like having the larger raised and textured button that has that satisfying click when you push it. This model is designed to fit in your pocket easily and has a recessed button that takes just a little more finesse to push, but nothing significant.

Recommended? YES!

Customer Review: Good remote design
Summary: 5 Stars

Good design for both in-car and in-pocket use. It comes with a snap-on cover and a visor clip. The cover can be snapped on to the back (as shown in the product picture, with only the 4 tabs at the 4 corner visible) or to the front to protect the button against accidental pushing. The visor clip doesn't work very well, since it keeps on slipping off my car's visor, but that could be because my visor is too thick. When both the snap-on cover and the visor clip are removed, the remote becomes much smaller (perhaps half the total depth), making it reasonable to be attached to the key chain and thus can fit easily into men's pant pocket.

The range is adequate for what I need. I can open the garage door even before I turn into my drive way.

I prefer this remote over the bulky Genie GIT-1 remote for the compact size, and over the Genie GIFT390-1BL because the flash light could be turned on accidentally in the pocket and drain out the battery.

If you need to access more than one garage door, then buy the 2-button or 3-button remote instead.

Customer Review: I'm very glad to have this!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this keychain remote after a conversation with my boss. I had never thought about the issue of having a garage door button in a vehicle parked in the driveway until my boss pointed out the fact that that is basically like leaving a key to your house in the driveway. I ordered a simliar keychain remote (but with a built-in flashlight) as a result of that conversation. I ordered this one without the flashlight because with my husband having it on his keyring in his pocket, the flashlight button kept getting pressed because of his body movement, causing it to go through a battery in less than a month. The flashlight button is not recessed & too easily activated for pocket use; but our daughter now has that one in her purse, and it's not a problem there.

These remotes are very easy to program, taking only a couple of minutes; and I like the fact that it takes one AAA battery instead of the smaller battery that our regular garage remotes require that are more expensive & not a standard battery available everywhere.

Customer Review: Remote works well but design is somewhat flawed
Summary: 4 Stars

The good:

Small and light fits on keychain
Comes with battery preinstalled
Visor clip/holster included
Quick release key ring
Easy single button operation and programming
Has small red LED

The bad:

Easy to accidently push button when in pocket

I've read that people are using the holster as a protective cover for the button which is a hack. Why Genie didn't design this remote like the ones available for car alarms I have no idea. Car alarm remotes rarely gets activated while in my pocket. This is a design flaw. The button shouldn't be so easy to push. Would have gotten 5 stars if it didn't have this flaw.

Update: I've found the effective real world range to be about 50ft which I think is about right, because you wouldn't want to accidently open your garage door when you're far away then come home one day to see your home burglarized.

Customer Review: Wow! I'm impressed!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was sooo easy!

The hardest part was cutting open the plastic packaging! Easy set-up as mentioned. Just click the "learn" button on your opener and press the button twice on this remote and Voila! you're done!

Comes with a visor clip and a key ring. I'm just using the visor clip. This is a nice compact size remote, a little smaller than those really tiny flip cellphones.

Note: The product packaging states that this remote is only valid with Genie models 1997 and newer.

This remote is working from 30 feet away for me. Awesome! I guess it depends on the static on this particular frequency in your area, but it's wonderful at my house and I'm not far from the airport.

If you own a Genie 1997 or newer and need a new remote, buy this one and you'll be as happy as me!
