Customer Review: (5/5) Good Programmable Garage Remote

So my family owns four vehicles and our garage door set included three openers (unfortunately we broke one) and so I decided to buy this authentic Genie garage door opener. Turns out that this garage door remote works great! It synced with my garage opener within a minute or so and on the first try. My garage door opener responded relatively quickly with one push of the button from this remote.
Now this garage remote uses a button Panasonic CR2032 3-Volt battery, and while these batteries typically do last long, I find it inconvenient that I have to open the entire case just to replace the battery. The older garage remote models used to use A23 12-Volt batteries and were easy to switch out through the flap made at the base of the remote. This newer model has the same flap; however, it is much more difficult to take out the button battery (it is possible with a pair of curved needle nose pliers or tough tweezers, but you risk bending/damaging the internal parts that you cannot see).
Pros and Cons:
Pro(s):
- It is actually lighter than the older model
- Same exterior look as the older models that used A23 12-volt batteries, so nothing new to learn
- Intellicode (can be recognized by garage doors with learn ability)
- Easy to sync with a Intellicode capable garage
- Good range (opened my garage from about 25ft+)
- Durable (the new interior design of this remote is quite solid, I say this because the older models using the A23 12-Volt batteries had the potential problem of not working after dropping them due to battery misalignment; this new battery design holds the button battery very securely)
Con(s):
- Battery replacement inconvenience
- Sharp visor clip (could just be mine)
Other Note(s):
- Although the remote is the same shape as in the picture, the remote I received did not say INTELLICODE on the side nor did it have that design at the rounded area of the remote (it does; however, say INTELLICODE on the label at the rear of the remote). Regardless, the seller should post a picture of what they really are selling (some people don't like surprises).
Recommendation(s)/Suggestion(s):
- For the visor clip part, you may want to find a pair if pliers and flatten the machine punched/dented area (not the hole) so that you can easily slide out the visor clip if you happen to want to change the battery (don't worry about the clip being too easy to slide out because the hole at the bottom of the clip will lock with the plastic protrusion on the remote's case)
- Speaking of the clip, the one I received had very sharp edges so I recommend that you take an abrasive stone and smooth out these areas of the clip to prevent it from tearing anything precious that it clips to or even cutting you!
Regardless of the battery replacement inconvenience and sharp edge on the visor clip, I feel that this product is more of a (4.7/5) stars but because I round up and because it works wonderfully at a good amount of distance with one click, I give it the benefit of the doubt and give it a (5/5).
