Tools and Hardware Reviews of Genie GIT-1BL One-Button Remote Control with IntellicodeCustomer Review: Works great on Overhead Door Legacy opener Summary: 5 Stars
I love my two-year old Overhead Door Legacy garage door opener, but a couple of weeks ago, I lost one of the remote transmitters (clicker) somehow and I got a nasty surprise. Seems that the Overhead Door people wanted to sell me the replacement for $39, plus state tax! I was determined to get this simple one-button remote for less than that.
My research turned up all kinds of confusing information, but I finally understood that Genie "Intellicode" and Overhead Door "Codedodger" technology is pretty much the same. After reading the specs on twelve different Genie remotes I decided to take a chance on this one, ordering it from Sanford & Son. Sanford & Son is amazing! I placed my order late on a Monday afternoon and the remote was in my hand with the delivery of the mail Thursday of the same week. And, there was no shipping charge!
Programming the remote took less than 60 seconds. It is a simple process of activating a "learn" function between the base unit and the remote (instructions are included). In appearance and function, the Genie and the Overhead Door remotes are identical, except for the wording on them.
Bottom line -- Instead of paying about $42 to buy a replacement Overhead Door remote locally, I bought this Genie remote from Sanford & Son for less than half that (special battery is included in the price) and it works perfectly.
Customer Review: Yes, it will work with your Series II Garage Door Opener Summary: 5 Stars
If your old remote looks just like what's pictured here, and you have a Series II garage door opener, this remote will work. And if you're wondering how to request a specific remote code/frequency, stop wondering. Each remote is factory set with a different frequency, and your garage door opener will learn to recognize the new signal. This "learning" takes all of 10 seconds and involves pushing a button on your door opener once (so you'll probably need a ladder) and then pushing the button on the remote twice. Done. Now your new remote opens your garage door. The packaged instructions are just about as easy to read as what I've written here. The remote even comes with an Energizer battery pre-installed, so you need not make a trip to the store. Too easy.
As for buying it at amazon.com, I first went to the Genie web page trying to find a replacement remote. After muddling around through several pages of not-what-I-needed, I decided to check amazon on a whim (since I buy everything else from amazon). There it was. Right product found within seconds. I hear it's half the cost on amazon also (but because I gave up looking elsewhere, I can't confirm this). Anyway, amazon has never done me wrong in more than 10 years of shopping, so I'll keep coming back.
Customer Review: The Ultimate KISS Garage Door Remote Summary: 5 Stars
I had one of these KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) remotes that came with the house/garage when purchased years ago. When riding the motorcycle or scooter, I wanted another to Velcro onto the bikes and make it easy for me to just ride into the garage without fumbling around, especially in the rain here in Florida. This remote is very small and by placing a Velcro pad on the back it is perfect for the bikes. Programing was literally, one, two, three and done. It took about 15 seconds. I am tall, so it was Simple to reach up and push the "Learn Code Button", then after the code light flashes (every 2 seconds), it was Simple to push the "Transmitter Button" (on remote), then the code light goes solid red, then press the "Transmitter Button" again and the code light goes out. This took about 15 seconds. KISS. Very, very SIMPLE. I also was able to open the garage door at 100 feet away. That is where I turned into my driveway. It may work farther away. I just didn't need to operate it at a greater distance. The price was fantastic, especially when my local Genie dealer wanted $50.00 to sell the one he had in stock to me. Delivery took 3 days and I could not be more pleased. That is why I buy from Amazon.
Customer Review: Excellent Replacement for an "Overhead Garage Door" remote control!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My "Overhead Guarage Door" remote control finally died. Upon calling the company I was informed that the automatic wireless "clicker" would cost over $100 to replace. Fortunately, I am a "gadget shopper" and began searching the Internet for a "Third-Party" replacement and wouldn't you know it the "Genie GIT-1BL One-Button Remote Control with Intellicode" by Geni matched my old "Overhead Garage Door" one-Button Remote Control perfectly. All I had to do was go through the "Three-Step" set-up to match my opener's "Secret Code" and everything worked perfectly! That was almost a month ago now and the Geni Remote Control has not failed to function and even has a much better "Signal Range" compared to the OEM Remote Control that came with the guarage door and automatic opener! I will probably order a second remote as a back-up just in case the other OEM remote fails. I give this 5 Stars for reasonable price, seamless functionality, ease of set-up and providing a somehat better signal range.
Customer Review: Perfect! Summary: 5 Stars
I read all of the comments here about the battery being dead on arrival and how painful the changing process was, but I took a chance and ordered this product anyway.
Shipping was fast, opened the box, pressed the "learn" button on the door receiver, pressed the button on the remote, and that was it. It worked straight away!
I did look inside the unit and the circle battery does look like it will be a bit tricky to replace, when the time comes, but it's doable. A small price to pay for a deal like this.
There is a slight lag with opening/closing the door when using this remote, compared to the original one I had, but it is less than 1 second. That's not a big deal for me. The range was fine as well.
Highly recommend this remote to anyone thinking of buying it. The price is great and it works without any hassle.
