Gerber makes the best multi-tool I've owned and I have owned four of these. I like this particular model because it is compact, ergonomic (it's comfortable to grip) and high quality. I find I seldom use the extra bits available with some of their models and the unit is less bulky on your hip without them.
Be careful with how you use the knife blade. It is hardened to maintain an edge but brittle and will break if you use it to pry. It's too bad that Gerber won't sell just a replacement knife blade, their website mentions a liability issue if it is installed incorrectly.

I have owned many multi-tools and bought one of the first leatherman's when they came out. The Gerber beats them all. The one handed operation is great for whipping it out for a quick fix. You just have to get your hand positioned correctly to have the pliers slide out quickly, but it's a breeze once you get the hang of it. I've owned the same Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport for several years now and use it EVERY day. When I worked as a carpenter, I kept it on my tool belt and used it as I would any other tool. I can't say enough about the durability and quality of this tool.

I have owned the gerber O55OO for many years it is the one tool I use more offten than any other both at home and work. You will wounder how you ever did with out one, once you start useing it. The tool is very conveiently sized and easy'ly fits in your pocket or purse and is ready for just about any job you have around the house, work or in the great outdoors. The tool is light so it wount wiegh you down and the slip joints function smoothly and need very littel in the way maintenance, just a bit oil now again and this tool will last you many years.Customer Review: Simply of the the best Multi-Tools ever!

I've had a number of multi-tools over the years & this is by far my favorite. I love the way Gerber deploys the pliers with a flick of the wrist, & the tools are far above average for a multi-tool, including the scissors which are the first I've ever found in a multi-tool that actually work well. While you can get more tools stuffed into a gadget, I don't think you could find a handier assortment, & the quality of all the tools are top-notch.
I hope Gerber never stops making this model, because it's simply the best of the best!!

The "Gerber MP400" is a very well made multi-tool with an innovative design and practical tools.
This somewhat compact multi-tool is one of the handiest things to come my way in a long time. The pliers can be deployed one-handed, which is very useful when working in tight quarters. I really like the locking feature for the other tools in the handle (one of my main reasons for buying this model).
This is a fairly expensive multi-tool, but it does go on sale occasionally.
Highly recommended!
