Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport Multi-function Tool

Customer Review: great little tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I've own this tool for a lil while now, picked it up at a closeout priced eleswhere, been great to me. Use it practically daily at work, even tho I have seperate specialized tools for the job, telecominications professional. Only drawback is the phillips screw driver, its a p2 or p3, needed a p1, smaller normal sized screwdriver, will not open any smaller screws, i.e. reg screws in our daily lives, always had to use the small flathead in place, works great but I did just bend the tip of the flathead just recently.

Customer Review: Not as good as they say
Summary: 3 Stars

The people writing these reviews are not realistic. More than likely, they probably have never used the better names in handtools/knives.

This knife is a bargain at $20, but I would not buy it. I have used mine for two weeks... here are the pros and cons:

Pros: Inexpensive, pouch, cut out grip holes, safety

Cons: Pliers useless, the slide mechanism gets stuck, you must take pliers out to use accessories

Go with a better name... you get what you pay for.

Customer Review: Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a sweet multitool, the only disadvantage of which is it needs regular lubrication for the one-handed opening to work really easily. It would also be nice to have a ruler engraved on the side like other models.

The selection of blades is decent; as another reviewer noted, the scissors turn out to be really helpful. I also like the wire-snips for cutting small cable-ties and those annoying plastic tags that retailers put into sweaters.

A quality product with no great drawbacks.

Customer Review: Gerber Compact Sport
Summary: 4 Stars

The Gerber Compact sport is one of the best knives I have ever used from the one-hand opening to the locking blades. With the flick on your wrist, you are ready to do anything. The advantage between this and Lethermen is that you don't have to dig for your pliers. The Gerber knife is also good if you have kids because they can't get into it. With the pliers in the handles, it is next to impossable to open. The disagvantages Gerber are the price, and it is harder to get to the tools in your knife.

Customer Review: Good knife, but plier cutters are a weakpoint, it locks up
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had one knife for 3 years, and it's fine. However, I found one on the side of the road a few months ago, dunno how old it is. It was fine for a month and then whenever it was closed, it would lock up and take some force to open. However, filing down the cutters with a metal file got it back in good condition. It's not my EDC, as it's pretty damned bulky for a Compact; my Classic SAK does nearly everything except has pliers and wire cutters in a nice, neat, and sexy package in black.
