Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-47162 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Fine Edge Knife

Customer Review: Gerber Fast Draw Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this knife simply because of the price, but the quality completely suprised me. Don't get me wrong, it isn't the quality of the $300 knives that seem to be so popular. I wanted a knife I wouldn't feel guilty using on everyday tasks, or God forbid lost it. The spring-assist feature is awesome and has funtioned flawlessly. I wasn't excited with the safety switch, but it has grown on me and isn't an issue anymore. The blade itself is good enough for everyday use and the length is perfect for constant carry. Not too long, not too short. I wish they would have shipped it a little sharper, but for the price and maybe safety protocals I'm not going to complain. This is my fourth Gerber knife and I've loved everyone. One of them even scared off a would be mugger (Probably wasn't the best idea on my end), but they work.

Customer Review: junk
Summary: 1 Stars

Complete and utter junk. It was so bad, I threw it away within 45 minutes of receiving it. It was impossible to open with one hand and barely opened with two. After I finally got the knife to open, the thing that is supposed to be a locking mechanism would not budge. I had to use a screwdriver to pry it to the unlocked position. The blade is the first knife I've received that wasn't sharp. I've had to make minor adjustments to new knives in the past, but any adjustment to this knife just made it worse. Totally frustrated, I threw it in the trash. This was my first Gerber knife. There won't be a second.

If you want a good knife try the Kershaw Ken Onion Leek. Kershaw's version of assisted opening actually works and is as fast as any automatic.

Customer Review: Gerber Spring Assisted Stainless Steel Fine Edge Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an awesome knife. Just had to say that first. I got it right on time, and once I took it out of the packaging, I immediately noticed how light and comfortable it is to hold. It also holds an edge very well, and is actually one of the safest knives I have ever used. It has a good, solid locking mechanism that prevents it from opening until you want it to. It is also very easy to open, due to the spring assisted opening. I bring it just about everywhere except school, and I don't even notice it in my pocket. The clip is very sturdy and absolutely will not let the knife come out of your pocket unless you take it out. Overall, this knife is an absolutely fantastic value and I would quickly recommend it to any friend (or stranger). Great Knife!!!

Customer Review: Just OK
Summary: 3 Stars

The Gerber Fast Draw is a good knife, but the one flaw that stands out to me is the button located on the left side. This button is used to put the knife on "safety", so it can't be opened accidentally. Also, this button is used to unlock the knife so it can be closed. I don't like where the button is located. I found when trying to open the knife, it was easy to accidentally put the knife on safety while trying to open it. I just don't like the design and much prefer a more conventional placement of the locking mechanism. I have other spring assist knives and have never felt the need to have a "safety" for that matter. For thirty dollars, it's not a bad knife. But, I probably wouldn't buy it again just because of the button on the side.

Customer Review: Excellent Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

I own about seven knives and this is most definitely one of my favorites. This knife is designed very well and built very well. The size and light weight make it perfect for carrying in pocket for everyday use.The spring assist whips the blade out very quickly.A safety switch on the handle prevents this knife from opening inadvertently and the blade needs to be pushed out a fair ways before the spring activates. This knife arrived at my door razor sharp and in perfect condition. If I were to change anything on this knife it would be the handle plates, they look kind of cheap and are not the most attractive. For the price this is a great knife and I highly recommend it.
