Customer Review: Pretty decent task light

I've had this Gerber for about 2 months now and it has actually turned into an everyday carry item of mine at work. it is very light and small at first sight which is great for tight places. Upon picking it up i could tell it was made pretty well and that fact has been tested from several drops at arms length on concrete. I do not believe it is made in the USA, but rather China. The whole body is made of metal and then you get to the top rotating piece that has the colored lenses which is made of plastic. Albeit, it seems to be a decent composite. I would still of liked a metal piece that I'm sure would last longer. The clip has held up so far, but i do see it breaking in the future. I still have it on combined with a lanyard now, but i don't think it will last heavy abuse - just my assumption. The Recon is a little brighter than what i expected for a L.e.d. of this size. It is very versatile with the changing lenses which I really liked. The red lens i find to be the most used beside the white. It is pretty dim but in very dark conditions works perfectly. The blue lens for liquid identification, i have found to be quite useless. I'm not 100% sure I'm using it right, but it doesn't seem to be something I would use regularly. I have yet to really field test the green light which i understand to be for map-reading. It seems to be useful but maybe not so needed. I will have to comment on that after I use it for hiking more. Overall, well worth the price. The unit will stand up for what I consider $30 worth -- 6-8 years of abuse.
