I bought the Gerber Suspension Multi-tool as groomsmen gifts, because I wanted to find something that was actaully practical for my groomsmen. No more cheesy flasks or beermugs that will never get used.
The Gerber is a great alternative to the more widely known multi-tools such as Leatherman.
I liked them so much I actaully bought myself one. The pliers have proven to be very strong, yet its not overly heavy feeling in my pocket. The lock out buttons for the tools are a little stiff but I imagine they will wear in over time. Access the tools in the center of the handle can be a little difficult, but not to the point that I don't use them.
I'd reccomend the Gerber too anyone who doesn't want to pay the higher price tag for the other brands.

I was given one of these as a 'secret santa' gift at work. I work in IT so I guess the giver thought it would be useful to me. They were correct! This little tool has come in quite handy more times than I care to mention! The build quality is very solid, yet not overly heavy. The pliers have a nice spring action for one handed use, and the various blades all work as they should (although the phillips head looks pretty strange and flat). I found myself reaching for the functionality of this tool at the house, so I grabbed another on here at Amazon when they bundled it with the little multi-tool. I am sure there are die hard leatherman fans who would shun this mutli-tool, but if you are not one of them I think you will find this to be a fantastic tool to have around.Customer Review: Sturdy, well-made multi-tool

The Gerber 01471 Multi-Tool has all the essential tools that I need for quick daily tasks that don't require the big toolbox. It is well made, solid, using high quality steel for blade and tools. It is certainly not designed for small hands, in particular the pliers - that's exactly why I bought it. The screwdrivers, both blade and Philips, are constructed of high quality steel and have already held up to some heavy jobs. One of the decisive reasons for my purchase was Gerber's blade and tool lock mechanism - it works and makes this tool much safer than others in my arsenal. Highly recommended, in particular for the sale price. I am thinking about buying a few more as gifts for my handy relatives - the ones with big hands :)Customer Review: feels great in your hand

spring loaded pliers meaning after the pliers taken out, they are held in the open position by a spring. this keeps it in your hand and opens ready to grab (no need to wrap pinky finger around inside to open pliers in your hand) giving you a full grip. feels really nice in your hand, heavy duty. tools lock in place and the spring unlock works smoothly. tools are a little tough to pry out, especially if you keep your nails short (i do). out of the box they are very stiff, but with a little working back and forth they come out easier, though still stiffer than i'd like. may loosen a little over time, but better than falling out. looks and feels tough, i just bought 5 more as gifts to the groomsmen in my upcoming wedding.Customer Review: Chinese Garbage

I believe, from other reviews, that the quality of this tool has dropped significantly in recent years. The handles and tools on mine look nothing like the pictures on Amazon. The edges are rough on the handles, even the torx heads look poorly machined. The jaws on mine broke after a couple of weeks of light use and since I own many other multi tools I have not bothered to send it back. I know that Gerber has great warranty service but I really don't even want another one. In my experience the multi tools made by Gerber in China are not that good, although the knives are pretty good. In short this is a good design so it gets 2 stars but the QC and workmanship is poor. I will stick with my Leatherman NEW WAVE.
