Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry Knife with 4.8-Inch BladeCustomer Review: Gerber LMF II Knife Summary: 4 Stars
Props.
Upon receiving this brilliant tool (wouldn't really consider it a knife really... it has SO many uses), i was very impressed with not only the quick shipping by amazon (thanks boys), but also the amazing sheath and harness straps that came with the knife!
The ONLY REASON i did not give this knife 5 stars is because: one - i just got it and have not made it to the wilderness yet (its below freezing out there... ill wait till spring thanks), and two - i do not know its true durability.
I can say however that this is one of the finest pieces of equipment for its kind. I am going to be living in jungles in central and south america in the near future for a long duration of time. With this knife + my survival skills... anywhere is my home.
Customer Review: One year of heavy use...... Summary: 5 Stars
I buy knives to use, not to brag about. I am not in the military and will never be. The person who said "Its a tool" understands what a knife is. If that rubs you the wrong way.....buy a chainsaw.....you are not Bear Grylls or Survivorman....that is the only "Internet Hype" here.....you buy a knife because you use it and it serves a purpose as a "tool" to do a job, NOTHING ELSE. Deer camp is the "proving ground" for all knives, not your back yard or shelf. I bought this knife over a year ago and it served me well at Bow Camp, Gun Season Camp, Black Powder Camp and even Turkey Season......if the finish scratches....so what? If the serrations are on the "wrong" side....you are not using it as a tool......and..omg if it rattles in the sheath....you have never been in any place nonfictional.
Customer Review: Awesome blade... fail handguard Summary: 3 Stars
blade was phenomenal. SUPER sharp out the box. Serated edge worked like a charm though any cord or rope. The black finish looks AMAZING. Great blade. Phenomenal Blade.
BUT......
The hand guard started peeling off on me every time I slid it back into the sheath. I've read some reviews of people saying it took a lot to put it back into the sheath but I didn't think it took that much of an effort. Plus I felt secure knowing the blade wouldn't accidentally just fall out of my pocket. But little did I know that the hand guard would slowly peel back every time I put it in the sheath..
Maybe I got a dud... but if you're going to use another sheath, then i HIGHLY recommend this knife. If not, well then I hope you get a better quality hand guard.
Customer Review: Great knife... Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing knife. I got my first use on a hike in the Smoky Mountains a couple weeks ago. The factory edge was sharp, the sheath is great and the knife is as tough as nails. I've seen some reviews that said the grip didn't fit larger hands. I'm 6'5" and wear XXL gloves and the grip is no problem at all. The material the grip is made out of held onto my hand even when wet from the snow.
The only negative, if I could call it that, is how tight the knife sits in the sheath. However, since this knife was first designed to be a downed airman's survival knife it had to withstand some unreal G-force and not come out.
If you are looking for a tough knife to use for hiking/camping/survival you've found it. Gotta love the folks at Gerber.
Customer Review: Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry Knife- 4.8 inch blade Summary: 4 Stars
Good quality sheath with a lot of options to carry, including a built in sharpener is a plus
Sharp knife and fits well in the hand, quality construction
I deducted one star because as an INFANTRY knife you need to deploy quickly, and effortlessly; pulling the knife from the sheath requires a little strength, more than what I think is needed; especially if one hand is holding the sheath while the other pulls the knife from the sheath--in a worst case scenario I may just have one good hand I need to be able to deploy my knife with one hand with little effort. I have a Ka-Bar and Ontario Knife Co M9 Bayonet, they deploy easily from their sheaths, come right off!
Overall package has the "cool" factor being tactical and all
