Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry Knife with 4.8-Inch BladeCustomer Review: Nice Sheath, Nice Blade, Poor Handle Summary: 2 Stars
I bought one and after removing it from and inserting it back into the sheath just a few times, the rubber on the handle began to separate and curl outwards. I then ordered another, took it into the woods for maybe an hour for some light use. I did little more than hack at some branches, but when I returned home I noticed the plastic bit on the handle that immediately surrounds the base of the blade (the tang)was pulling apart. Needless to say, I was very disappointed after spending quite some time researching knives and reading positive reviews about this one. I emailed pictures to Gerber and they were polite, but offered no solutions. Both knives are en-route back to Amazon.
On a positive note, the sheath is of the utmost quality, very versatile, and very comfortable! I only wish I could keep the sheath and put another more durable knife in it.
Customer Review: A great wilderness knife for the price point Summary: 5 Stars
I own a lot of knives from custom made like Randall and Chris Reeve down to the $25 "survival" knife I bought my son.For the price this knife can't be beat as an all purpose survival/hunting/tactical knife. The knife design is well thought out and includes such options as the ability to be a hammer, wedge, saw, spear, glass punch and of course knife. The sheath is also well designed and thoughtfully includes a sharpener and multi carry options including ankle and MOLLE/ALICE options. The steel could be a bit better but is still a good steel that will take and keep an edge especially at this price. And the knife has enough heft to do hard work without so much as it becomes a weight factor.
All in all if your budget concious I would say this is the best or one of the best deals around in a hard working well thought out cutting system.
Customer Review: You could bet your life on it! Summary: 5 Stars
You've probably already read through a million different reviews, and hopefully you've done your research. Let's make a long story short and say this: The Gerber LMF II (ASEK) isn't just good enough for our Army Aircrew and Infantry, it's going to get the job done for you, too. This is a SOLID knife with enough innate features to keep any person alive in a REAL survival situation. The punch and hammer combo are solid, the blade is full-tang and the handle is insulated to protect from shock when you have to cut through 220-lines. Sure, you can tie this up to a stick and make a spear, but the matte black coating and razor edge also let you sneak up on someone. THIS is what you're looking for - THIS is a real knife. This isn't for John Rambo and this isn't a toy, this is a tool that could save your life in extreme conditions.
Customer Review: Gerber lives up to its name. Summary: 5 Stars
This knife come out of the box sharpened. Gerber provides superb quality, so much that when you just lay the knife on you hand it readily begins to sink in and cut, so as caution BE CAREFUL, for those not use to such good quality.the blade is not too long, more so perfect in length. The knife fits the holster perfect. The straps (security straps that surround the butt of the knife while in holster) are a bit tight to connect but that actually comes as a security benefit. also the leg straps are of great quality as well, they come with rubber LACED into the straps (to prevent the knife holster from moving while in action)) not just melted to the surface, so they won't come apart when they are worn. all of the material is sewn together with high quality stitching so there is no worry of it coming apart under stress.
Customer Review: Well made Summary: 5 Stars
I got this as sort of a birthday present. I selected it because of a long list of great experiences with gerber. It took some research because I've good experiences with KABAR and CRKT as well. However, I don't regret this knife. Starting with just the knife, it is everything the description says, but they really don't describe the quality of the material, the fit and finish of the handle and angle of the grind. The sheath is also well made and can be mounted in almost any manor imagineable. The only down side I really found was the coating on the blade. It scrapes very easy and having it in a lansky sharpening kit does cause scratches to it, but I oil my blades anyway to keep them from rusting. Becuase stainless steel can RUST!
Overall another excellent piece of equipment from gerber.
