I've been carrying the same knife in my pocket for over 12 years. Thought I lost it once so I bought two more as backups. Found the old one and have never had to use the other two.
A small X type cheap ceramic sharpener from Lowes keeps this razor sharp. It dulls quick, but sharpens quick too.
For what it's worth, Gerber's website says "Made in USA" (not China)

This is my first Gerber knife, and I love it! This is much nicer than similar Buck knives, in my opinion. It is slimmer, less noticable in the pocket. Quality is impressive. When opened its much more balanced than the Buck Bantam..the handle is heavier. Great product, as is usual for Gerber. This knife is light, small enough to carry in dress slacks, holds an edge and sharpens pretty easily. I love this little knife and use it for everyday applications from opening envelopes to cutting string-trimming nylon cord and small ropes. It is a great value. For years my dad would break out his trusty Gerber whenever he need to open a letter or peal an orange. Now I know why. The knife is lightweight, fits very nicely in your hand, has an extremely sharp blade, and is nice and flat so it doesn't cause a huge bulge when it's in your pocket. I lost my gerber pocket knife, and needed a replacement. I looked for one on the respective web sites and remembered the great deals on Amazon. I found the knife I was looking for. It is a sturdy lockback Gerber drop point knife. I couldn't be more satisfied with it. It is very lite and easy to handle. Another great Gerber product.
