Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-41432 EVO, Titanium Coated, Serrated Edge KnifeCustomer Review: Nearly perfect EDC knife Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
Very sharp blade. Most of my knife's action involves slicing through cardboard boxes and other household sundries. Boring, I know. No cutting through the jungles of Borneo or slicing through bad guys. Your mileage may vary. This cuts through most material like warm butter, no doubt owing to the the carbon steel. Most will likely just use it to threaten their wife and kids - am I right, tough guy?
The blade is also serrated. There are knife enthusiasts that deride serrated blades, due to the difficulty in sharpening. Maybe that works when playing Grizzly Adams and gutting fish by the river, but out in the everyday world of thick cardboard, nylon ropes, steel wire, plastic packaging, et cetera, you need a partially serrated blade.
Blade's length is perfect for just about any occasion, at home or out in the wilderness. It's likely a 1045 carbon steel, so no concerns about toughness or having to sharpen it frequently. As carbon blades are prone to rust, its nice that Gerber anodized the blade with titanium, so no having to worry about keeping the knife completely dry.
I demand a finger flip for a pocket knife! Too many times have I had to fumble for an opening or release on a pocket knife. No longer! One can do it one handed, in the dark, wherever. This knife meets that requirement nicely. However, using the thumb stud can be stiff on a new knife until you lubricate it and use it frequently.
Knife comes with a nice pocket clip that is tight and not flimsy, and you won't have to worry about losing it after you clip it somewhere.
Despite the knife's sturdy construction, its lightweight, but you can certainly feel that its not "cheap". It's also one of the more aesthetically pleasing pocket knives on the market. It's likely to never go out of style, and is built well enough to likely be one of the last pocket knives you'll ever need to buy.
Cons:
I've found that the black anodized aluminum handle can scratch or chip easily. Especially so if you keep it in a pocket or elsewhere with keys and other items. This doesn't effect the functionality of the knife, and I knew that this might happen when purchasing it. This is something with which I can tolerate, but it might bother others. If it gets too bad I can just get a get a good metallic spray paint, but not really necessary.
This doesn't bother me, but it doesn't have a loop hole for attaching a cord, lanyard, or keyring.
