Customer Review: Gerber Mini Fast Draw Knife

Ordered this to replace an old favorite that died after 10+ years. Picked this one because of the safety switch, pocket clip, and spring-assist opening mechanism, as I most often opened my old knife one handed. Having carried it and using it repeatedly for four days, I've become very disappointed with it. I'll return and replace it with a Ken Onion mini "Mojo" next week.
Pros;
* it is indeed quite small.
* it arrives with a good, sharp edge right out of the box.
Cons;
* it is so small that I find it difficult to regularly open with one hand without fumbling with it.
* the safety thumb latch often hangs up, failing to completely disengage without cycling the latch a second time to allow the blade to open.
* my knife's F.A.S.T. spring-assit mech. requires me to manually open the blade far enough before it engages that there is almost no benefit realized by the time the spring action finally takes over. Obviously, the F.A.S.T. feature was of zero value in the 20% or so of cases that I needed to use both hands to open the knife.
* the pocket clip is so tight that trying to force it over the edge of my jeans pockets would have torn them.
Selling in the $20-$25 range, I suppose I had overly high expectations. I'm now convinced it's wiser to pony up the extra $25 or so and buy a high quality knife this next time, rather than another cheap Chinese import. If I get the 10 years or more out of the replacement that I did with my old knife, the extra $2.50/yr is more than worth it to have a knife that meets both it's performance claims and my expectations.
