I bought this shovel to carry on my mountain bike and use to build trails. It's light and compact and comes with a handy bag. The quality of shovel is superb. I have used it a few weeks now and the metal has not shown any signs of fatigue. You can set the shovel blade at a right angle to the handle to use as a pick. The handle length is a little short to get great leverage though. The handle extends and locks in place with a spring loaded button. Unfortunately the button and spring were broken on my shovel when I got it. Not sure if that happened during shipping but it wasn't a big enough issue to be worth returning it.
I would recommend this shovel for anyone looking for a quality compact shovel.

This little shovel is the prefect "take anywhere" tool. I do a lot of back country driving and it has bailed me out several times. From digging out snow and mud to spreading gravel for traction, i've even used it to chop through a root that had lodged it's self in the undercarriage of my truck, it does anything it's larger heavier brethren can do, AND it's compact size allows it to be carried on your belt without being cumbersome. I've used it to dig temporary fence post holes, latrines, I've even used it to dig a ditch around my tent when a midnight rain squall threatened to soak all my belongings. It's now a permanent addition to my every day kit, and I have spares in both my cars.Customer Review: Small shovel or large spoon?

This "shovel" is extremely compact, great for those with limited space. But, if you expect to do much digging with the utensil you had better look elsewhere. If you are looking for an emergency shovel for emergency situations, then this is for you. I bought it because of limited space in my Jeep JK and although I would have preferred something a little bigger, this is close to what I was looking for. It is well-make, and very sturdy. It does have some weight to it for its size, so if you are backpacking you may want to look elsewhere. Wearing this on your belt is asking for trouble. It is a great shovel for the price - something I plan to keep with me at all times.Customer Review: Only As Strong As Its Weakest Joint

The first two times I used this shovel, I was impressed. For its size, it was surprisingly durable (although, the handle is quite short not giving you much torque). However, on its third trip to the snow and ice, it buckled like a pair of Italian shoes and the head broke clean off from the base. Sent a picture of the two pieces to the manufacturer, but they wanted me to send in the product to be considered for replacement. Now call me lazy, but there is a reason I shop on Amazon in the first place, because I don't have time to lug around town doing errands, like mailing back broken shovels.
Decent tool, but not very durable.

This puppy is built solid and will dig up some dirt if needed. Good for ice and snow as well. Not as long as I'd like though. Makes me wish I had just purchased a spade and cut off about 2 feet of the handle. Got it for my mother to put in her car. She likes that its collapsible but has a difficult time unlocking and opening it with her tiny hands. She will probably leave it opened up and just toss it in the trunk.
This tool isnt for everybody. Its not very long and if you dont want to fiddle with the locking ring it will go unused. Maybe next time I'll get the Glock entrenching shovel. Its a little bigger and the handle is longer.
