This is not really a "shovel." It's tiny. A folding spade would be a better description. It arrived in a box with the handle extended and the blade folded. My first thought was what a tiny blade. Then I thought at least the handle looked like it would be long when it was extended. After a while I realized that the handle WAS extended. It does fold up very small, and it is very light, and it's probably very durable, but the tiny size limits its uses. Digging a small hole? O.k. Digging your way out of a stuck car? While i'm certainly sensitive and empathehetic to the needs of of any US service personnel serving in the gulf (my thanks to you all)....just because amazon can't ship the shovel somewhere - -it shouldn't get a bad review in my opinion. For the price it absolutely can't be beat. If you want full blown 'survival" shovel like a pro climber would use -- then count on spending $100 or more......I just had to dig my car tires out of the snow the other day (I bought the shovel to leave in my trunk) and it was perfect for the job.Customer Review: Childhood memories

Nice sturdy compact shovel. Good quality memories as a child camping and digging pits for campfires and such. Abused this thing for a lot of years(15+) and gave it away with my parents camper trailer. Wish I still had it, now I have to buy another one for nieces soon to be fond memories of camping trips. It doesn't have sharp edge, but the more you use it the sharper it becomes as it wears down slightly. Just an absolute must have for anyone who really enjoys camping and camp fires.Customer Review: Best little shovel I could ever own...

This one is the best, strong and can be used as a hammer. Will hold up to multiple impacts and abuse over the years, great for digging a firepit or pounding in tent stakes with the hammer on the opposite side the shovel. For $20.00 plus a little for shipping (free with purchase of 25 or more on amazon) it's compact and will be the last "LITTLE" shovel I will ever own. Will buy one as a gift in the future.
Also the nylon zip tie bag is worth a good $5.00 alone!

Like others have said the head is smaller than it looks but it does the job. Feels very sturdy, much better than the cheaper alternatives, my friend used a similiar folding shovel in the US Army, and liked the compact design better than his military version.
Fits perfect it my toolbox and camping backpack. I like that the back side can be used to drive stakes, this tool does have the weight to be useful for driving stakes into hard earth.
