Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-41578 Gorge Folding ShovelCustomer Review: Better look at the Glock folding shovel instead Summary: 2 Stars
This is an OK shovel but it weighs too much for its size. Better to look at the Glock collapsable shovel, which is lighter, larger, and has a pretty decent saw concealed within the handle. When out backpacking, size is less important than weight and functionality, so I strap the Glock to the back of my pack and get a better tool for less weight. The Gerber tool now sits in my garage, unused.
Customer Review: small but effective Summary: 5 Stars
took this little guy out camping last weekend, and it worked great. it was much smaller than i thought it would be, the spade is about the size of my hand. it was perfect for hammering the tent stakes into the ground, and moving coals around in the firepit. you really can't beat the price for such a small, durable, and compact shovel.
Customer Review: Sand Shovel Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this shovel for my son to dig in the sand at the various beaches we visit. He has used it 3 times so far and is perfect for his 8 year old hands. It is small for an adult, but this is way better than those plastic kid shovels. I am not sure how it would work digging in dry dirt or clay, but for sand this shovel is perfect.
Customer Review: Collapsing Shovel Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty good collapsing shovel. The handle has a telescoping joint, so it fold down into a very compact shape. The handle is made out of the standard fiberglass-nylon plastic material that Gerber is fond of using. It isn't very big when expanded out, but what do you expect for a fairly durable folding shovel.
Customer Review: Smaller than expected Summary: 3 Stars
This shovel is smaller than I expected after looking at the pictures. I got 2, 1 for each vehicle, as emergency shovels during the winter. I'm sure they'll be better than using my hands to dig out the wheels if I slide off the road, but not as good as the entrenching tool I was expecting them to duplicate.
