Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated EdgeCustomer Review: Great Little Knife Summary: 5 Stars
I originally purchased one of these at a sporting goods store for about $13 and loved it. I work in the IT field, and found it useful for opening packaging, boxes, stripping wires, as well as everyday household chores. Then sadly, I lost it. Searching on Amazon, I found this serrated/straight edge version (the original was straight edge only) and bought both this version, as well as a replacement for the straight edge only knife I'd lost.
I've tried many, many small knives over the years, and this is by far my favorite. The blade is suitably sharp, the serrations are incredibly handy, and the size and weight are perfect for the pocket. Since the blade is only 2.25", "sensitive types" won't think of it as a deadly weapon. When using a reasonable quick sharpener, I've found this knife maintains a good edge. The locking mechanism can be a bit stiff to release, but the knife doesn't pop open unexpectedly in your pocket.
There are a number of knives on the market which may ostensibly be rated as "superior" to this one, but the prices of those knives are hard on the budget. In short, this Gerber paraframe mini is an excellent compromise between price and performance.
Customer Review: Perfect everyday pocketknife Summary: 5 Stars
I've been carrying one of these as my everyday pocketknife for a couple of years now, and if I ever lost it I know I would immediately replace it with another. Blade is sharp, and I find the serrated edge very useful for a wide variety of typical day to day tasks. The lock is simple and in my experience reliable and strong. And the belt clip isn't some dinky plastic thing that's going to break off after a few months of wear.
This is clearly a knife for righties - the clip will be primarily useful when it's carried on your right side, and due to the clips placement I find it quite difficult to open one handed with my left hand (even though I'm actually left handed). Indeed, one handed opening! In contrast to several other reviews on this item, I find my knife easy to open one handed and do so habitually. I can't remember the last time I had to use both hands to open it. However, it took some practice to get the motion down, and I could see how it might be difficult if your hands were particularly large (or covered in oil or something else slick), so perhaps counting on this ability isn't wise.
Customer Review: Simply the best 'pocket knife' you will ever see. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one, loved it so much I bought one for a half dozen co-workers and friends. They all found this a very useful and handy tool that is small enough and convenient enough to carry anywhere. The problem with many small knives is the blade locking mechanism rarely holds well, and when one places the knife under stress the blade will, "Wobble". The Paraframe knife locks so well it exibits none of that problem, and is simply 'un-locked' with a fingernail. It could hardly be any easier !
Cabela's wisely sold them to me, then yesterday, on my way through Pennsylvania on business, I stopped to purchase a few more, and they no longer carry this m odel knife. They carry only the large 3" bladed version at this point. That is what brought me to Amazon, so I can order the knives here instaed. Gerber made a simple knife, even better. You won't be disappointed in owning this knife. Typical Gerber sharpness, durable, and the serrated edge comes in handy on opening boxes made with thick cardboard, or fastened with stubborn tape, and plastic strapping.
Customer Review: nice knife, but buy the fullsize Summary: 4 Stars
Let me preface this by explaining that I've carried a folding knife with a clip in my pocket since I was 14. I've been through everything: Spyderco, kershaw, gerber, smith and wesson, ETC. I really like this knife design, it's lightweight and the handle fits well in my hands... Well it would if I was like 8. I know it says mini but this thing is SMALL. It'll serve me well until I buy another one but doing it again I would have bought the fullsize. It was super stiff when I opened it up, the blade was quite hard to open and the blade lock was WAY too stiff. It's part of the handle and I had to adjust it so my friends with less manly hands (and my girlfriend) could use it without issue. I just used some tools and bent the lock side of the handle and the belt clip until they were a bit looser and it'll work for now. Overall a good knife at a great price but a bit on the small side for me.
Customer Review: Great Little Knife! Summary: 4 Stars
I recently bought this knife as a replacement for a smaller one which came with a multi-tool combination at Home Depot around Christmas time. The other knife was so small I carried it all the time and it was constantly coming in handy. Unfortunately I either lost or misplaced it and I was "grieving" for it since I loved it so much. While at an outdoor store recently I took a look at their small knives looking for something similiar to my old one. After looking at this one and the price, I bought it in about a minute--a record for me.
I no longer miss the old one because this one is even better. I especially like the serrated portion of the blade and the strong pocket clip. I am very pleased with my new knife and would highly recommend it to someone looking for a small inexpensive knife to carry around on a daily basis. It is so small, you will forget you have it!
