Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge

Customer Review: Very good and sturdy knife!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this knife! I bought one for light use around the house and at work, and I would have to say this is the best money I have spent in a long time. The knife came very sharp and the blade does not dull out as quickly as many other knives tend to do, especially those around this price range. The handle is surprisingly sturdy, the screws came incredibly tight, the clip will never worry you, and the handle fits perfectly in your handle. I have never once feared the blade would come loose even during heavy use, and I never have to worry about the blade coming out in my pocket.

The only thing I don't like about this knife is that, especially with gloves on, the blade is very tough to get out with only one hand. I know most fingernail-release blades like this are the same way, but if the opening was slightly bigger, then the problem would be solved.

Customer Review: Bought it, lost it, bought another
Summary: 5 Stars

This knife is very good for an everyday pocket knife. I didn't want a large knife, I need something that fits in a standard pants pocket along with keys and doesn't get in the way.

The blade is sharp, the serrations are very effective. Sharpening a serrated edge is difficult but not impossible, but for this price I'd just get another one when they get dull.

Never had any issues with the lock blade opening, staying open or closing. Never had any issues with the knife falling apart like another reviewer. It can be taken apart for cleaning and to remove the clip.

I had gone from a small multi-tool type knife to this one and was glad to make the change. When I lost it I looked for a replacement locally and could not find it. If you want a small sturdy, sharp, 50/50 straight-edge serrated knife I'd get this one.

Customer Review: Great knife but not long wearing
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had several of these. I use them and give to friends also. Great size, under $10 at Walmart, perfect size in your pocket.
Only problem is that they get loose in the folding point. The issue seems to be they have 2 Teflon washers right where the blade hinges and if you use them several times per day they start getting loose and wobbly within 1 to 2 years or less. They do not hold an edge well either but heck for $10 what do u expect. For the price a great knife and if you lose it no big deal but it will never become a family heirloom that Grandpa handed down to the grand children. For the cost its a good deal but do not think high quality when you see the Gerber name here. Yea it is made in China also so that figures.

Customer Review: Small, but otherwise, a perfect knife
Summary: 4 Stars

I've always carried a pocket knife, and am used to carrying a larger serrated knife. But, this little thing is a real workhorse. It's almost invisible and so lightweight, it's easy to forget you are carrying it. But, there it is, always clipped to my pocket, ready to work. The combination blade is excellent, hacking away at twine and cardboard like nothing is a problem. I cut down boxes and whatever and it just keeps on cutting. Very sturdy. I keep thinking I need a bigger knife, but haven't found a need to get one since I carry this little guy every day. My grandpa would have been proud of this little beast.

Customer Review: Dangerously unreliable lock
Summary: 1 Stars

I was given this knife as a Christmas present in 2010. Now, less than a month later, and after very little use, the blade lock almost never works. To lock the knife I must forcibly open the blade with both hands. Even then there is not much lock holding the blade open, so I can't trust it, and neither should you. The problem is design: instead of the lock being a separate, springy, hardened piece of the liner, it is a much thicker (and less springy) part of the frame itself.
I've owned the same small Gerber folder for over 30 years, so this failure surprised me.
