Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gladiator GarageWorks GACUXXCAVK Claw Advanced Bike Storage, v1.0, AluminumCustomer Review: Do I really need a $60 hook when an 89 cent one will do? Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The bike storage "system" works well and is easy to use. You just push your bike tire against the lever and "voila" your bike is clamped for easy storage. It works a bit better than the 89 cent "J" hooks I bought from the home center.
I guess I am a target customer for such a hook as I live in a prosperous suburb and our family owns eight bikes. Hanging the bikes is the only solution for our cramped storage space.
The Gladiator Storage hook looks very cool in aluminum alloy and has a "gee whiz" factor of the snap closure. The problem is that at $60, I would have to spend nearly $500 for all this coolness. I'd rather spend $6 bucks for J hooks. Thank you very much.
But then again, I have never spent more than $1000 bucks on a single bicycle and maybe if I owned the latest and greatest carbon fiber wonder machine, I'd spend $60 to display it by the coolest technology there is, in my trophy room (if I had one).
I can't complain on the quality, so it really is 5 star product but I subtracted a star for value. If you want the "Ultimate" Bike Storage hook, look no further. Me, I'll stick to my 89 cent "J" hooks.
Customer Review: Much better then that old rubber coated hook! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
When I first saw this, I couldn't imagine that spending over fifty dollars on a bike hook could be justified. After using it I am a believer.
This item is well made and carefully designed for ease of use. It is also very nice looking, especially if you use this inside your house where it is plainly visible. It is very high tech in appearance and holds a bike very securely being functional as well as attractive.
You no longer need to fight with your bike to loop it on an old plastic coated, ugly screw in hook. I hate the way that looks inside the house! This is the best of form and function. You just hold the back of your bike up to the two opened hooks and tap the orange plunger with the rear tire and it clamps the two rubber lined hooks securely and safely around the wheel. To get it down you simply lift up bumping the plunger and the hook spread apart to release the bike and remain open till you replace your bike again later.
A little pricey but for the quality and beautiful design it is worth the price especially if you have a lot of $$$$ invested in your cycle and you hang it in plain view inside your home. Nice item!
Customer Review: Great Product, Bad Price Point Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have been using this product for the last few weeks to store my bike and, while it does an amazing job, I really see no benefit over using the couple dollar hooks I had mounted the wall I was using before. Here is a similar product to what I was using prior: 2-pc. Monster Bike Hook Set There is definitely a "coolness" factor with this product that you do not get with a plain white (or yellow) hook but it has, on a couple of occasions, taken more than one push upwards to release the bike. Also, is the "coolness" factor a big deal? For me, no. No one sees my messy garage. If you are a garage junkie and love everything in its place and the shiny glint of chrome spattered throughout your garage, pick this up. If you want something to hang your bike on and don't want to spend over sixty dollars, head down to your local hardware store and pick up a couple dollar hooks.
Final thought: This isn't, in my opinion, one of those products that is worth spending extra money on. And trust me, I like the best of the best when it is warranted.
Customer Review: Simple and effective Summary: 4 Stars

The claw is designed to be screwed into the ceiling joists of your garage. If the ceiling is covered over, like ours, you'll need to get out a stud finder or start tapping the sheetrock to find one. Make sure you don't discard any packaging, as you'll find two long wood screws secreted within the cardboard: these are what you use to mount the claw.
You'll need to mark and drill pilot holes in the joist, and then you can tighten the provided screws. And that's it for installation -- 15 minutes or less with a drill and screwdriver. The claw has 4 holes, so you can mount it on any joist running in any direction.
Operation is very simple -- push the bike wheel into the plunger to close the two hooks around the rear wheel. Push up again into the plunger to release. The hook is sturdy and well-made, and can carry up to 50lbs (though if your bike weighs this much you might want to consider something lighter!)
It's more expensive than a plastic-covered hook, but looks better installed and is somewhat easier to manage when hooking and unhooking your bike.
Customer Review: Good Bike Hangar Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Gladiator Claw does what it is supposed to do: hang a bike from the ceiling of some structure. I found that this claw works pretty well. It's easy to install, and the claw mechanism works pretty well--it's semi-automatic. You press the wheel up under the claw, and the tire actually pushes the claws apart. They swing back together as the tire hits the stopper that is placed between the claws. To reverse, just press the tire back against the stopper, and the claws retract. Then remove bike. It seems to work well with a clean bike, and right out of the packaging.
However, with all the moving parts, I wonder how good it will be in a couple months of use. From what I can see, I think after awhile, the claw release mechanism might fail, in which you'd be stuck manually opening the claw with your fingers while removing the bike from the ceiling.
Also, you may want to buy two of these--hanging your bike from one wheel is not a healthy way to keep your tires true. This would get five stars if it was instead a claw for the frame instead.
