Purchased this light about a week ago. It works perfectly! Being as it's only a single six inch tube, it's not SUPER bright, (If you want a BRIGHT blacklight, try the newer LED lights in the 350-400 Nm Spectrum, or larger, multi-tube lights.) I believe people expect too much of this little light. It was not designed for illuminating urine stains from 6 feet away,(In the dark 6" to 12" is a very effective distance.) or for germ detection, Etc. (Most germs DO NOT fluoresce under U.V. Light. However, a lot of FUNGAL infections do, such as Ringworm.)
Unlike a a lot of the other reviews I read AFTER placing my order, I had NO PROBLEMS with the battery compartment. When I first placed the batteries in the compartment, I found that they appeared to be about 1/4" too long. However, when I pushed down on them, they stayed in place, and the cover fit perfectly.
PROS: Compact, Lightweight, Dual-Purpose, (Has Flashlight feature,) Uses AA batteries, VERY effective for its intended purpose. (Detecting the "Invisible" Anti-Forgery symbols on Government documents. (Money, Drivers Licenses, Passports, etc.(I tried this on my CA license,& was surprised to see a line of CA State Flags appear in color near the bottom of my License!))
CONS: Tube Cover Lens, (Relatively easy to remove, (Just GENTLY squeeze lens @ one end & pull straight up.) Rather difficult to press back on, (One retaining tab broke off during this procedure, but still holds fine.) Polarity Indicator. (This is molded into the Battery Compartment, and is difficult to see, unless in bright light, or you use a flashlight to see it, and it does not indicate battery direction. By trial & error, I found that the + - symbols mean THIS SIDE UP. I.E. On the side Marked +, you place the - side of the battery in FIRST, so the + side faces you.)
