Tools and Hardware Reviews of GoodYear 045 3/8-Inch-by-50-Feet Safety Yellow Rubber Hose 3/8 -Inch by 50-Feet 250 PSI With 1/4-Inch Ends

Customer Review: good hose
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a good hose.

Much better than the cheap plastic-y feeling ones you're always tempted to buy because they're so cheap.

It's rugged, coils easily, even in the cold. It has a little bit of "memory", but not too bad. The fittings are solid enough.

I read another review about dropping boards on it and having it break - I can't say I've ever dropped a board on it, but I would think, at least from the feel of the thing, that if dropping boards on it breaks it, then those same boards would have broken pretty much any hose out there that from the same price range.

If you want heavier duty than this, you're almost certainly going to sacrifice flexibility and light weight - and therefore useability. You don't want to fight a stiff armored air hose with your finish nailer as you try to get up into a tight corner.

This one seems to me a very good compromise between ruggedness and suppleness (If I may use such a word without jeopardizing my manliness).

I recommend it. It's absolutely worth the few extra dollars over the cheaper hoses out there. If you're often in a high action area where boards can fall on it regularly, you might want to look into something armored, and maybe use a flex hose on the final 10 feet. But I've never had any trouble with mine. I do keep a little emergency splice kit with me, just in case. But I've never needed to use it.

Customer Review: Best hose you can buy at a great price.
Summary: 5 Stars

You can buy cheaper hoses but you cannot buy better. Spend just a few cold days fighting a cheap PVC hose and you will become a believer in rubber air hoses. Avoid the frustration and buy a good rubber hose right off the bat. While a little more expensive, rubber hoses are more flexible and much easier to handle than PVC.

This GoodYear hose is the best I have used and Amazon's price is unbeatable. The hose is rated at 250psi, is built of very high grade materials, is abrasion resistant, and oil resistant. Best of all the hose remains very flexible even in colder weather. (Goodyear typically tests their hoses at 4 times the rated working pressure so this hose will most likely handle more pressure than your compressor will.)

I tried the PVC route when I got tired of dragging my old hose between the house and garage. While looking for a new air hose all I could find was PVC, so I bought one. After spending just a few frustrating days trying to deal with the very stiff springy coils, I decided enough was enough and ordered this hose from Amazon. The hose coils nicely and is easy to pull behind while you work. The rubber hose lays flat with no springy coils to snag on studs, joists, or saw horses.

I am very impressed with the quality of this air hose. This is a great air hose at a great price. I highly recommend this hose.

Customer Review: It Does What I Want
Summary: 3 Stars

We bought a Fixer-upper, my wife and I, and as a recently retired residential designer, I returned to my earliest occupation-- arough carpenter. A lot has changed since the 70's I still had my 20 oz hammer but I was dismayed at how those little muscle skills had disappeared so I bought a little job site compressor, a package of nail guns and a package that included some brass fittings, a tire inflator, tire pressure guage and a blower and a 25 foot 1/4 inch diameter plastic hose. The hose was an accident waiting to happen as its coils rolled unpredictably around.

Now, I worked in gas stations right out of High School and we had a variety of impact wrenches and Tire Man units powered by compressed air; the hoses were always rubber, they were stood up well to abuse and they laid flat and remained flexible when cool (really cold made them a bit harder to manage). I knew there was better available.

That is what I wanted. That is what this product is -- it just a different color (used to be orange) and I got 50 feet so my little pancake compressor can be on the back porch while I am inside, working, and when it starts up, it frightens the neighbors pets, not mine.

Amazon delivered on time at a decent price and I am content.

Customer Review: Don't scrimp on air hoses.
Summary: 5 Stars

The advantage to this Goodyear hose is that it is made out of industrial grade rubber instead of vinyl. What that means is that when you are using it instead of being stiff like vinyl it remains soft and flexible, so it lays flat on the floor. This is especially a problem in colder temperatures. It's great for coiling as well, it doesn't fight you.
The real frustration of using a vinyl hose is that it can stand up while moving across the floor, high enough to snag on things, or even pull something onto the floor. The hose is in a coil, then instead of simply uncoiling, the vinyl has a memory and wants to look more like hoops moving over the floor.
This hose comes in 3/8" which is the most popular size. The 1/4" hoses restrict air flow, which is especially important over a 50 foot run.
All in all highly recommended. The advantages are worth it even if it was twice the price.

Customer Review: Just what I needed. Fair price.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a high quality hose for 1/4 inch connectors. For the price, you get 50 feet of high quality hose, but no connectors. You'll need to get them elsewhere.

The threaded ends on this hose are beveled so it makes for a great seal. I don't know, but that may be standard for pressure hoses. If not, then it's a great feature.

I think this is a great hose, but it may be a little thick for my little compressor. I'm afraid, because of the weight and strength of this hose, that I run the risk of breaking the connector off on the compressor. Also, because of the thickness and volume of space within the hose, hooking it up to my little compressor decompresses the tank quite a bit. If I had to do it again, I would probably purchase a thinner hose. None the less, this hose performs excellently and I'm confident that it will last me my entire life.
