Tools and Hardware Reviews of Grip 3 pc Kitchen Door Router Bit SetCustomer Review: You get what you pay for Summary: 3 Stars
This is the same set as you'll find in stores like Harbor Freight at the same price and I find it very unlikely that anyone would really try to sell it at $149.99. So don't let the so-called "list price" fool you: This set is as cheap as they come, and they don't even come close to Freud and other more expensive bits. They were not shimmed correctly, one cutter had a nick in it and I also had to spend another $25 to have them sharpened before I was able to make a decent cut with them. As already mentioned, the bits don't match perfectly and leave a gap front and back. They also seem to be made for 7/8" stock so using 3/4" stock will leave very little material on the back to tack them together. As a matter of fact, just about every joint I have tried so far cracked when I shot the brads, so you need to use plenty of glue to ensure a strong joint.
With all that said, this set can indeed be used to make good looking doors, if you have the time and patience to fool with sharpening and adjusting the bits, glue the joints thoroughly and use some wood filler to hide the gaps. Fortunately, the bead part of the profile fits nicely so filling the gaps on front and back is easy enough, but it goes without saying that you can just forget about using these bits on doors you want to stain.
I'd still give it 3 stars ($50 including sharpening ain't bad at all), but I would only recommend them for hobby users who are willing to spend more time on the fit issues, filling, sanding and so on, rather than spending another $100 on a good set. My sharpener said that he has worked on several sets like this, and they seem to hold up quite well once properly sharpened. I actually like the deep cut as it gives the doors a much more substantial and "heavy" look so I will probably use these bits on customer jobs where this look is desired, but only on smaller jobs so I don't get stuck half way through a large batch of doors just because the bits broke down.
