Tools and Hardware Reviews of Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14" Bandsaw

Customer Review: Good value for a 14 inch band saw
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to upgrade from an inexpensive 12" inch band saw I have had for some time to a 14 inch bandsaw mainly to resaw boards. Having researched 14 inch band saws for several months I decided on a Delta bandsaw. However, the shipment was delayed several times extending for over 4 months for some unknown reason. I cancelled the order and purchased the Grizzly Ultimate Band Saw and the extension kit based on advertised features and reviews. The saw so far performs well for resawing boards. Two minor problems I had with the saw were that I replaced the wing nut on the tracking mechanism with a more substantial hex nut after the wing nut cracked, but that was partly my fault for using too much pressure on the pliers. Also, the band saw blade that came with the saw extension kit was defective, and I replaced it with a low tension 3/4 inch (Swedish Silicon Steel)Timber Wolf blade. Contrary to what some band saw books say about using 3/4 inch blades on low end 14 inch band saws, I had no trouble correctly tensioning the Timber Wolf 3/4 inch blade so that it tracks accurately on the Grizzly. It did take me a little bit of time, however, to learn how to correctly tension the blade since the tensioning process was not clearly explained, at least to my satifaction, in the manual.

Customer Review: Great Deal On A Bandsaw
Summary: 5 Stars

I looked at all the options for a home woodshop bandsaw, and I think this saw is definately the best bang for the buck. Delta is selling a similarly priced model at Lowe's, and Rigid is selling a similarly priced model at HD, but I don't think there's any comparison in quality -- you just get more for your money with the Grizzly. You certainly get much better blade guides with the Grizzly, but I also think the overall construction, fit, and finish is better.

I got the 6 inch riser kit and installed it right away. Assembly was easy. The manual is well written, and is actually very useful. After assembly I checked to see if the upper and lower wheels were co-planar, and they were out by .090". Inserting a .090" thick washer behind the upper wheel quickly brought it into alignment (this is all covered very clearly in the owners manual).

The only small issue I had was with the fence. The main fence rail was a little warped, so the the fence would bind up when sliding along the rail. Grizzly customer service was pleasant, helpful, and had a new part on my doorstep in a couple of days. Not bad for one phone call. No complaints there -- Grizzly customer service rates a 10 in my book. The new fence rail works like a charm.

Customer Review: Grizzly Ultimate 14"Bandsaw
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this saw this past saturday from Grizzly. I looked around online and in a few local stores for the past few months , the thing that swayed me to the grizzly were the features not found on other saws of the same category , the fence , the guide bearings , the 1 hp motor , 2 speeds , the heavy stand , when compared to the comparrible saws out there it seemed like a no brainer. the saw was delivered today , not bad since I ordered it 4 days ago. Set up was pretty straight forward , I had it together and all adjusted properly in a few hours , also bought the movable base by Shopfox , had to assemble that also , well worth the money in my opinion , the saw is very stable on that roller base and easy to move around. When I finished assembly of the saw and hit the strt button there was no vibration , everything was in allinement , the saw was quiet and vibration. Made a few test cuts with the stock blade that came with the saw , the blade is not so good , but I have a Timberwolf blade for it , it cut 1"hard maple great. All in all I like this saw , I'll follow up in a few weeks or months , but the way this saw is built I think it will be a good runner for years to come , I would recommend this saw if you are in the market for a 14" bandsaw.

Customer Review: Problems after a year
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this saw about a year ago. Everything was fine as i assembled the saw and for the first several months all was OK. I began to notice that the table didn't remain perpendicular to the blade even after I had tightened the knobs which hold the table in place. I carefully set up the stop bolt to make the table perpendicular but discovered that since it only supported one half of the table, the table was slightly twisted. The table went out of square frequently and was a pain to deal with. I began to realize that the guide bearing frames were not properly made and changed as you tightened them. The general engineering of this part was poor. Just recently one of the guide bearing seized and discovered that it would cost $6.50 to get a new one and $7.50 to ship it. It would easily fit in an envelope and cost less than a $1 to ship. The insert around the blade does not come up to the level of the table and causes a "snag" when feeding small objects. It also catches lots of dust and wood fibers making passage of the piece difficult. In general, the saw does OK, but there are lots of details which don't add up to a first class machine. With some more attention to detail and quality control, this would be an excellent machine.

Customer Review: Tiawaneese , what a relief
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first Bandsaw, I bought it because of the reviews that I read, price was a factor though. I build Cupolas and needed a tool to resaw 6x6 treated lumber and resaw cedar for the louvers, the treated lumber was a desaster, the chemicals totaly gummed up the wheels, guides and blade, as for the cedar, this saw resaws wonderfully,I of course am using quality after market blades - 3/16, 1/2 and 3/4. The blade ball bearing guides are being replaced with high tolerance bearings, part number 608SSD21 from a company in Miami. The finish on this tool is very good, both in machining and paint. The blade tension release is great, so easy. Changing the blade speed is quick, but a long stem allen wrench makes speed change even eaiser. The table fence is a great beginning it's made in a way that adding a longer/taller face is simple. When I un-packed this saw all parts were there, and assembly was straight forward. After assembly and blade adjustment, this tool ran so quiet, all I could hear was the blade guide bearings as I was cutting yellow pine, this tool really kicks out the dust, a dust collector is a must, my shop vac in no way can keep-up. I would buy this tool again, it satifies all my needs.
